Chesterton Town Council President Erin Collins releases statement on arrest of CPD officer-from the Town of Chesterton FACEBOOK page
On behalf of the Chesterton Town Council, President Erin Collins, D-2nd, released the following statement this morning, Thursday, Jan. 1, on the arrest of a CPD officer on a charge of domestic battery:
“The Town of Chesterton has been made aware of the arrest of a Chesterton Police Department officer on allegations of domestic battery. Allegations of this nature are taken extremely seriously. Conduct that endangers others or undermines public trust is not tolerated by the Town of Chesterton or the Chesterton Police Department.
“The allegations will be investigated and addressed through the appropriate internal and statutory processes, including review by the Metropolitan Board of Police Commissioners.
“At the time of the arrest, the officer was on administrative leave, and the officer will remain on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
“Out of respect for due process and the individuals involved, the Town will not comment further while these proceedings are underway. Our focus remains on accountability, transparency, and ensuring the safety and confidence of our community.
“Anyone who experiences domestic violence is asked to please seek help by calling 1-800-799-SAFE or 1-800-799-7233.”
