The La Porte Park and Recreation Department announced they have been awarded a $6,500 Lake and River Enhancement (LARE) Invasive Aquatic Vegetation Management Grant from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
“The grant funds 80 percent of the cost for surveying and treating Clear Lake for invasive plants such as Eurasian watermilfoil and purple loosestrife,” the Park and Rec Department said on its Facebook page.
Additionally, the La Porte Lake Association received a $24,800 grant for Pine and Stone lakes.
According to the Park and Rec Department, Indiana waters are benefiting from more than $1.4 million in LARE grants for 48 lake and stream projects in 17 counties. The program, funded through annual LARE fees paid when boat owners register their crafts, helps lake and stream projects that are difficult for local organizations to fund.
