On Tuesday, night just after 10 pm, La Porte County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched to the intersection of US 6 and County Road 400 West, in rural Noble Township, reference a two vehicle crash.  Upon the arrival of the investigating deputy, other emergency personnel were already on scene treating both drivers. The crash investigation revealed that a 2005 GMC Envoy, driven by 20 year old Zachary S. Holland, of Valparaiso, was traveling north on CR 400 West.  A Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 50 year old Lewis K. Obrien, of Westville, was traveling east on US 6. The investigation determined the GMC disregarded the stop sign on CR 400 West and entered the path of travel of the Chevrolet, ultimately failing to yield, creating the crash. After being extricated from the vehicle, Holland was pronounced dead at the scene. Obrien complained of pain to the upper body but refused treatment at the scene.  The investigation has ruled out alcohol as being a factor in the crash.
