The Michigan City Area Schools Board of Trustees voted on Tuesday to approve Courtney Barber as the new principal of Pine Elementary School.
Barber’s most recent role with Michigan City Area Schools has been as EL Education Fifth Grade Teacher Leader, and since August 2019 she has been a Principal Designee with Edgewood Elementary School where she also served as Elementary Principal Intern.
In 2018, she was a High School Principal Intern at Michigan City High School. Barber thanked the Michigan City Area Schools Board of Trustees and administration for this appointment, especially grateful for the opportunity for her to grow into this leadership role within the district.
“I’m so excited to work alongside my new Pine family,” she said. “You’re already doing great things and I can’t wait to dig into this work with you.”
Barber received a Master of Arts degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Ball State University, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Purdue University Northwest, and an Associate of Science degree in Elementary Education from Ivy Tech Community College. She also holds certifications including a Building Level Administrator License, Elementary Generalist License K-6, and Reading Endorsement K-6. Dr. Wendel McCollum, Associate Superintendent of Michigan City Area Schools, says Barber is a good fit for this position because she is a leader who understands the operations, culture and climate of Michigan City Area Schools.
“We are proud to have her here at Michigan City Area Schools. Courtney will be a rockstar principal for us,” he said. “We are looking forward to great things continuing to happen at Pine Elementary School.”
