Since 2021, deputies have responded to an alarming number of calls for service (CFS) located at 2866 South CR 550 West. The 15 CFS to the residence have included an alleged sexual battery, narcotic overdoses, thefts, noise and fire complaints, to name a few, and the most recent on April 10th, where deputies responded to a fight involving several subjects.
Following the April 10th incident, detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) began to further investigate the residence and rightful ownership. It was discovered the homeowner passed away in 2021, and a subject identified as Jason P. STRYJEWSKI has been staying at the residence since then. Contact was established with relatives of the deceased homeowner who relayed that STRYJEWSKI, along with any other occupants, were no longer welcome at the residence.
On April 11th, Captain – Chief of Detectives Andy Hynek and Detective Jacob Koch visited the property. STRYJEWSKI and several subjects were located and instructed to vacate the property. Based upon STRYJEWSKI’S vulgar response, investigators suspected that he and many others would ignore the directive. Captain Hynek secured an arrest warrant for STRYJEWSKI for Maintaining a Common Nuisance (L6 Felony) and Criminal Trespass (A-Misdemeanor) later in the day.
On April 12th, CID Detectives, Day Shift Patrol Deputies, along with members of the Warrants Division and the Administration, converged on the residence and took a total of nine (9) subjects into custody, including STRYJEWSKI. Three (3) subjects were located inside the residence, while the remaining six (6) subjects were found to be residing inside passenger and recreational vehicles on the property.
All nine (9) subjects were removed from the property and transported to the La Porte County Jail (LCJ). The following are the arrestees and subsequent charges:
β€’ Jason P. STRYJEWSKI (42 YOA) – Aforementioned Charges
β€’ Austin E. HALDERMAN (23 YOA) – Visiting a Common Nuisance, B-Misdemeanor

STRYJEWSKI remains housed in the LCJ and is being held on a $755 cash bond through Circuit Court. DORSEY, MCCULLOUGH, and HALDERMAN also remain housed in the LCJ and are being held on a $305 cash bond through Superior Court III.
STACY, MORTON, MICHAELS, and MROZINSKI all have since posted bond and subsequently have been released from the LCJ.
CHARLSON was issued an information and summons, was provided with a Superior III Court date for the offense, and released.
All of the arrestees were instructed not to return to the property, or they will be charged with an additional offense of Criminal Trespass.
Captain Derek J. Allen stated, β€œThis investigation, operation, and arrests put an end to a nuisance property that has been creating an excessive response and workload for deputies. In addition, the quality of life for nearby residents of the property will begin to improve and return to normal.”
Arrests and criminal charges are mere accusations. Every person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
