Local first-responders will be conducting a joint exercise involving simulated aircraft crash this Saturday in Valparaiso.

The following is a statement from the Town of Chesterton Facebook page regarding the exercise:

“On Saturday, Oct. 12, local first-responders will be conducting a joint exercise within the confines of the Montdale Industrial Park in Valparaiso.

“The purpose of this Emergency Preparedness Exercise, organized by the Porter County Local Emergency Planning Committee and both state and federally mandated: To evaluate sections of the Porter County Emergency Operations Plan.

“PLEASE NOTE: This will be a full scale exercise, emergency equipment will be seen operating at multiple scenes, and smoke and fire—created by use of simulators—will likely be visible from a distance on both Friday, Oct. 11, for training, and Saturday, Oct. 12, for the exercise itself.

“PLEASE NOTE TOO: During the setup and execution of the exercise on Saturday, Oct. 12, Montdale Drive will be closed to traffic from Raystone Drive to Slover Road (C.R. 325E).

“Participants in the exercise are expected to include the Valparaiso Fire and Police departments; other county fire department; the Porter County Sheriff’s Department; Northwest Health Hospital and EMS; Porter County Hazardous Materials Response Team; Porter County Emergency Management Agency; Porter County Regional Airport; and local industry.”
