Here is the latest from the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office regarding a motor vehicle pursuit whihc resulted in two arrests.Β  Yesterday at 9:50 AM, a Highway Interdiction Deputy was monitoring eastbound traffic on the Indiana Toll Road (I-80/90) at the 56-mile marker. A white Jaguar was found to be traveling in excess of the posted speed limit. The deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop in the area of the 62-mile marker. The driver failed to stop the vehicle resulting in a motor vehicle pursuit (MVP). The MVP continued to the 72-mile marker where it was terminated.
Several minutes later, a Flock Safety camera captured an image of the Jaguar now traveling west on US 20 from the area of the SR 2 β€˜Dogbone’ Interchange. A nearby deputy observed the Jaguar at US 20 and SR 39. Another deputy, just west of the aforementioned intersection, attempted to initiate another traffic stop. The driver failed to stop again resulting in a second MVP.
The MVP continued along US 20 to I-94. The fleeing Jaguar traveled westbound, then eastbound, and back westbound on I-94. In the area of the 28-mile marker, the Jaguar stopped. The driver and passenger fled from the interior of the vehicle. The passenger was captured and taken into custody a short distance away. The driver fled into a wooded area along the north side of I-94.
With the assistance of a helicopter from the Lake County Sheriff’s Department Aviation Unit overhead, a deputy and troopers from the Indiana State Police began a ground track of the driver. The driver was later apprehended and taken into custody following a K-9 bite.
The driver, identified as Titus D. LONG (30 YOA) of Chicago, Illinois, was transported to an area hospital for medical treatment. The passenger, identified as Adena R. DRURY (28 YOA) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was transported to an area hospital for medical clearance.
LONG and DRURY were medically cleared and later transported to the La Porte County Jail (LCJ) for the following offenses:
β€’ LONG – Resisting Law Enforcement, L5 Felony (Prior) & A-Misdemeanor
β€’ DRURY – Resisting Law Enforcement, A-Misdemeanor
LONG and DRURY remain housed in the LCJ.
β€œFlock cameras throughout La Porte County and across Northwest Indiana have become a great tool for deputies to utilize while performing their duties. This incident is yet another example in which a camera played a pivotal role leading to the arrests of those involved in a crime. Thank you to all the agencies who assisted, but especially the Lake County Sheriff Aviation Unit and the Indiana State Police,” stated Administrative Captain Derek J. Allen.
Arrests and criminal charges are mere accusations. Every person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
