This morning at 8:30 AM, Deputy Josh Smith responded to the campus of the South Central Community School Corporation regarding the suspicious behavior and activity of a student. Deputy Smith met with corporation personnel in the rear parking lot and was provided with additional information.
The student was identified as 18-year-old Nayden C. THORNTON of Union Mills. Deputy Smith continued to investigate the incident including him recovering a firearm that was located inside the student’s vehicle. THORNTON was eventually taken into custody.
THORNTON was transported to an area hospital for medical clearance. Following such, Deputy Smith transported THORNTON to the La Porte County Jail (LCJ).
THORNTON was arrested for the following offenses:
β€’ Possession of a Firearm on School Property, L6 Felony
β€’ Possession of a Controlled Substance, Class A Misd.
β€’ Possession of Marijuana, Class B Misd.
THORNTON remains housed in the LCJ and is being held on a $755 cash-only bond through La Porte County Circuit Court.
