LAPORTE COUNTY, Ind. — The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after three people were injured, including one critically, after a van crashed into a dump truck Monday evening.

Deputies were dispatched Monday evening just after 6:05 p.m., to the intersection of State Road 2 and County Road 500 West, in reference to a personal injury crash. The initial on-scene investigation determined a 1999 Dodge van, driven by a 66-year-old Kingsford Heights man was traveling south on County Road 500 West when he failed to yield to a 1990 Ford dump truck traveling east on State Road 2.  The van entered the dump truck’s path of travel and the vehicles collided, according to the report.  Following the crash, both vehicles overturned resulting in gravel being strewn about on the roadway that was being hauled by the dump truck.

The dump truck was being driven by a 58 year-old Rolling Prairie man. Both drivers were injured and transported to an area hospital for treatment.  A 71 year-old Kingsford Heights woman who was a front seat passenger of the van was critically injured.  She was airlifted to a regional hospital for treatment.

Police say alcohol and toxicology test results are pending.
