The Town of Porter is announcing that the Waverly Road bridge over I-94 will be closed to all traffic beginning on Monday, Aug. 17, according to the Town of Chesterton Facebook page.
INDOT will be repairing and resurfacing the bridge.
The work is currently anticipated to take approximately 75 days. The bridge could be back in business on Oct. 31.
The recommended detour: Wagner Road.
However, the long-closed Mineral Springs Road bridge over the East Arm of the Little Calumet River—just north of The Spa Special Events Center—is right now expected to reopen to traffic sometime during the week of Monday, Aug. 24 (and possibly as soon as the week of Monday, Aug. 17).
The Town of Chesterton is noting that visibility at the intersection of U.S. 20 and Mineral Springs Road is superior to that at the intersection of U.S. 20 and Wagner Road.
