Update on U.S. 35 bridge in La Porte

Yesterday, Crews laid asphalt on the U.S. 35 southbound bridge approaches in downtown La Porte. This bridge deck replacement project continues with the goal of having the bridge reopened to full traffic by November.

Indiana’s Unemployment Insurance program wins prestigious Integrity award

The State of Indiana has won a top honor from the U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL) for excellence in service demonstrated by its Unemployment Insurance (UI) program. USDOL presented Indiana with a UI State Performance Program Integrity Excellence Award for being a leader in the large state category, which includes states where employment exceeds 2 million. Officials from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD), which administers the UI program, accepted the honor at the recently concluded National Association of State Workforce Agencies’ (NASWA) Workforce Summit and UI Directors’ Conference in Boston. Semi loses control and causes major traffic problems

A semi lost control Sunday afternoon on I-65 northbound at the 236 mile marker (this approximately four miles south of the Lowell exit) which brought traffic to a stop. Preliminary investigation showed that just before 5 p.m., a Freightliner pulling a box trailer, driven by 49 year old Ronzell Dewyan Forte, of Gardena, California was northbound when he went off the roadway (newly paved road) and could not gain control of his semi. Purdue Northwest Reports Seventeen Percent Increase In Freshman Class At Westville Campus

Purdue University Northwest (PNW) this fall continued to enroll more first-time freshman students and full-time students. The number of students attending college for the first time went up particularly at PNW’s Westville Campus, which saw a 17 percent increase in new student enrollment. Overall freshman enrollment across both the Westville and Hammond campuses is up about 4 percent compared with fall 2018, and has increased steadily over the past three years

August Indiana Employment Report

Indiana’s unemployment rate continues to drop to 3.3 percent for August and remains lower than the national rate of 3.7 percent. The last time Indiana's unemployment rate was at 3.3 percent was February 2018. The monthly unemployment rate is a U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) indicator that reflects the number of unemployed people seeking employment within the prior four weeks as a percentage of the labor force.Indiana’s labor force had a net decrease of 2,135 over the previous month. On Thursday, the Healthcare Foundation of La Porte (HFL) recognized ten organizations for making their communities a safer and healthier place to live by granting them Automated External Defibrillators (AED) at a community celebration.
