LCSO Presents 27TH Annual Holiday At the Pops

Dr. Carolyn Watson , fresh from her successful debut concert as the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra’s (LCSO) 10th Music Director, will be co-conducting the 27th Annual Holiday at the Pops with Associate Conductor, Chuck Steck . Steck, who served as Interim Music Director during the three-year search for a Music Director, has conducted the Holiday at the Pops concert for the past five years. This concert will serve as a “passing of the baton” between Steck and Watson. The 27th annual Holiday at the Pops, which will take place on Saturday, December 11, 7:00 p.m. at the Civic Auditorium

Holiday Art Fair at La Porte County Historical Society

The La Porte County Historical Society Art Fair is on Saturday, Dec. 4, starting at 10:00 and ending at 3:00 p.m. Admission to the Museum will be free of charge. Artists from the Land of the Lakes Art Alliance and Michigan City Art League will have a booth showcasing all of their artwork. 9th annual Downtown Cookie Walk in La Porte set for Dec. 11

The 9th annual Downtown Cookie Walk in La Porte will take place on Saturday Dec. 11 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pay a visit to all participating businesses and receive a free holiday treat at each stop to put in your 2021 Cookie Tin. Cookie Tin sales will begin Monday, Nov. 22 and can be purchased at the Civic Auditorium for $10 (limit one per family). Tins are also available for purchase through Monday, Dec. 6 at Hot Spot Café, The Pink Sheep, Downtown Delights and A Whole World of Good. Tins will be available for pick-up on the day

Michigan City Festival of Lights Celebration set for Dec. 4

The Michigan City Festival of Lights Celebration will take place on Dec. 4 from 6 p.m.-10 p.m. at the Senior Center in Washington Park. There will be a cash bar, live music by Pointing Fingers Band , and a chili challenge where Michigan City Police and Fire Departments will face off, as well as a “Service Club Showdown.” A five dollar donation to Meals on Wheels is needed to sample the chili and vote.  The admission fee to enter the celebration at the Senior center is one unwrapped toy donation.  Also on Dec. 4 will be the Snowflake Parade at

Lubeznik Center for the Arts says it is looking forward to celebrating the holidays with the community. Excel Center accepting enrollment applications, Term 3 begins Nov. 22

The Excel Center, a free public high school for adults, is currently accepting enrollment applications for Term 3 of the 2021-2022 School Year.  Classes begin Nov. 22 at Excel’s Elkhart, Gary, Hammond and South Bend locations.  Applications are accepted at any time throughout each term and new students are integrated into the schedule. Those interested can apply online at: www.ExcelCenterHS.org.  The application is free and takes less than 10 minutes to complete.  New students are encouraged to contact The Excel Center for more information and assistance completing their application.  Visitors are welcome at the South Bend, Hammond and Gary locations

Chesterton Hometown Holiday Celebration taking place Nov. 27

The Duneland Chamber of Commerce announced the Chesterton Hometown Holiday Celebration will take place Nov. 27. The celebration features the Hometown Holiday Outdoor Market, Tree Lighting Ceremony, and the Twilight Christmas Parade. Everyone is invited.  Some of your favorite European market vendors will be set up in the usual spots at the Holiday Market. There will be holiday gifts and food.
