Lyme Disease Found in Ticks in a Number of Counties

Indiana health officials are encouraging Hoosiers to protect themselves from tick bites while outdoors as warmer temperatures bring an increase in tick activity across the state. Recent field sampling by the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) has found adult and immature ticks (nymphs) carrying the bacterium that causes Lyme disease in a number of counties, particularly in the northern, west central, and south central parts of the state. Anyone who becomes ill after finding an attached tick should see a medical provider immediately and alert the provider to the exposure. Two Semi Crash on Toll Road

A two semi crash eastbound on the Indiana Toll Road, at the 28.4 mile marker 2 1/2 miles west of the Chesterton exit, on Monday evening had traffic down to one lane for clean-up. Preliminary investigation revealed on Monday afternoon, a 2016 International semi pulling a box trailer, driven by 54 year old Glenn Christy of Valparaiso, was eastbound on the Indiana Toll Road in the right lane when he slowed down for a disabled car that was on the outer shoulder. March Indiana Employment Report

Indiana’s unemployment rate stands at 3.6 percent for March and remains lower than the national rate of 3.8 percent. With the exception of one month when it was equal (October 2014), Indiana's unemployment rate now has been below the U.S. rate for more than five years. Stretch of U.S. 20 in Porter County Set for Resurfacing Project Starting Monday

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announces that a resurfacing project is scheduled to start Monday on U.S. 20 in Porter County, from just west of State Road 149 to just east of the interchange with I-94. During the project, which is expected to last until the end of June, traffic will flow one lane in each direction at all times. During the first phase, crews will do patching in the outside lane for around two weeks before moving to the inside lane for patching and paving. Then, at the end, they’ll move back to the outside lanes for paving.

An emergency closing of the Franklin Street Bridge in Michigan City has been declared by the County Commission President and Council President. Due to structural damage caused by the recent record-breaking arctic temperatures across our area, the Franklin Street Bridge will be closed immediately to all traffic-both vehicular and pedestrian. South Shore Line Providing Extra Eastbound Train For Select Saturdays

For select Saturdays in December, the South Shore Line will provide an eastbound extra “shoppers special” train to help accommodate holiday travelers.On Dec. 15th, this extra will depart Millennium Station at 4:25p (Van Buren St. at 4:28p), run non-stop to Hegewisch and make all local stops terminating at Carroll Avenue. Robbery at Pharmacy in Michigan City

The Michigan City Police received a report of an Armed Robbery that had occurred at CVS Pharmacy located at 3253 Franklin St. early Monday. It happened just after 3:30 a.m.It was determined that three individuals were involved in the robbery where an undetermined amount of money and narcotics were stolen.The three suspects are described as black males, juvenile to young adult all wearing black.
