On Sunday, (9/21) at 8:09 AM, deputies responded to the 200 block of Lakeview Drive in Fish Lake regarding a burglary in progress resulting in one person being shot. The initial on- scene investigation completed by Deputy David Francis and assisting deputies determined the following occurred. A 66-year-old homeowner arrived at his residence and entered through an overhead garage door. He encountered a Hispanic male carrying two rifles inside his garage. The subject immediately fled from the residence. The homeowner proceeded inside and located a second Hispanic male within the interior of his residence. A scuffle ensued between the two

Raiders is a physically demanding competition, roughly based on the skills required of Marines in Force Reconnaissance. Cadets must work together in order to be successful. On Sunday (9/21) at 3:36 AM, Deputy Austin Wells was standing on a sidewalk near the intersection of Lincolnway and Monroe Street. He observed a vehicle traveling west on Lincolnway in excess of the posted speed limit (25 MPH). Deputy Wells estimated the vehicle to be traveling approximately 50 miles per hour and sounding as if it had a flat tire. Near the intersection of 1st and “J” Streets, Deputy Wells attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle. The vehicle failed to yield triggering a motor vehicle pursuit (MVP). Wednesday, Sept. 24, is the deadline to apply for the Duneland School Corporation’s free-or-reduced-price meal program, funded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture, according to the Town of Chesterton Facebook page. DSC will process benefit applications for those students who apply and are approved. Students not qualifying for free or reduced-price meals will be charged the paid meal price for breakfast and/or lunch. Families who were receiving benefits last school year and have not yet reapplied for the 2025-26 school year are encouraged to complete the application, as the carryover benefits for these families will expire on Wednesday, Sept. 24.

On Friday, at the conclusion of the school day, a large fight broke out amongst students at Michigan City High School, the MCPD said Friday afternoon. Officers from the Michigan City Police Department and surrounding police agencies responded to the scene to assist. Police said at 3 p.m. on Friday that the high school was secure and there was no threat to public safety.

The Chesterton Street Department is discontinuing the collection of brush from the alleys in Chesterton, according to a Facebook post from the Town of Chesterton. The Porter County Sheriff's Office said Friday evening that earlier in the day, their School Resource Officers working at Wheeler High School began investigating an alleged threat that was reported. Police said the threat was thoroughly investigated and found to be not credible. A report was been taken and police said they will continue to monitor the situation if there are further developments.
