Update On Michigan City Homicide Investigation, Two In Custody

The Michigan City Police, after working relentlessly throughout the night into Friday, have officially charged two subjects in the homicide investigation in the 200 Block of E. 6th Street that occurred at approximately 8:30pm, on October 4th. The victim, Nathanial Havis age 60, of Michigan City was shot and killed hours before his 61st birthday and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the LaPorte County Coroner. The family of Mr. Havis has been notified if his death. Roll Over Semi Blocks I-80/94 West Bound Traffic

A semi with double trailers blocked west bound I-80/94 traffic at the 15.4 mile marker (this is just east of the Ripley exit) for over 2 1/2 hours Saturday when it rolled over. Donnelly Provisions to Combat Opioid Epidemic Pass Senate as part of Bipartisan ‘SUPPORT Act’

Several of U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly’s provisions passed the Senate this week as part of a bipartisan legislative package that will help combat the opioid abuse epidemic. Blow Away Breast Cancer rally at La Porte Hospital October 8th

The first ever Blow Away Breast Cancer rally at La Porte Hospital will commemorate breast cancer awareness month in the community and serve to celebrate and honor those who have been affected by a breast cancer diagnosis. Michigan City High School Student Earns Highest Possible ACT Score

Julia Miller, daughter of Michael and Nancy Miller and a senior at Michigan City High School, earned the highest possible ACT composite score of 36. On average, only around one-tenth of 1 percent of students who take the ACT earn a top score. LANE/RAMP CLOSURES – I-65 in Lake County

A concrete restoration project will start Wednesday in the southbound lanes of I-65 in Lake County, between 61st Avenue and U.S. 30. During the project, southbound traffic on I-65 will be split, with one lane to the right and two lanes to the left during the day. At night, traffic will only pass in the one lane to the right as crews work in the left lanes. Fall turkey season

The fall wild turkey hunting season and the early archery season started Oct. 1 and firearms season runs from Oct. 17-28. The late archery season runs from Dec. 8, 2018 to Jan. 6, 2019. The bag and possession limit for the fall seasons is one bird of either sex. Fall archery season is statewide. Semi Loses Coil on 80/94

A semi lost a coil yesterday evening causing the I-80/94 eastbound to Ripley Street south bound ramp to be closed for approximately two hours. On Wednesday, just after 5:30 pm, a 2000 Volvo semi pulling a covered flatbed, was eastbound on I-80/94 in the right lane when he abruptly had to brake and swerve to avoid an unknown car that cut him off. The coil that was loaded on his trailer rolled off and went across the exit ramp to Ripley Street south bound ramp.  This caused damage to the roadway and the south side guard rail. The coil came
