South Shore Line to Offer Discounts to Monthly Pass Holders

South Shore Line will be offering 10% discounts on monthly passes during the month of March.During the polar vortex, South Shore Line services were suspended for several days due to the extreme temperatures. Crews ran tests throughout the day and night during this time to determine whether rail lines were safe. Residents of Michigan City are Urged to Apply Immediately for Free Home Repairs to Houses Built Before 1978

Mayor Ron Meer is proud to announce the City of Michigan City’s recent inclusion in the State of Indiana’s Lead-based paint remediation program which is sponsored by Medicaid and administered through the Indiana State Department of Health. Home owners, Landlords, and Renters who live in a home, or own a home, built before 1978 can receive a free home inspection to determine if the residents are being exposed to lead-based paint hazards. Arts Commission reminds artists the deadline is near to apply for Individual Advancement Program grants

The Indiana Arts Commission (IAC) recently announced the deadline is near to apply for grants from its Individual Advancement Program. Artists with eligible projects in the disciplines of dance, literature, music, theatre, folk arts related to these traditional disciplines, and artists with disabilities are encouraged to apply. Artists with disabilities may apply either through the discipline directly or through the access category. Artists may request up to $2,000 in support for projects that will help advance their career and have public benefit. Fatal Crash Sunday Night On I-80/94 In Hammond

Just before 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Trooper William Stancy responded to a single vehicle crash on I-80/94 west bound to Cline Ave. south bound ramp that resulted in a fatality. Preliminary investigation revealed that a Ford Taurus was exiting off of west bound I-80/94 to south bound Cline Ave when for unknown reasons ran off the roadway just before the curve on the ramp, striking the concrete barrier wall between the ramp and mainline west bound I-80/94. 2019 Enchanted City Mayor’s Ball

Mayor Ron Meer of the City of Michigan City will host the 2019 Enchanted City Mayor’s Ball. The proceeds will benefit Lubeznik Center for the Arts and Friendship Botanic Gardens. The Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) announced a record-breaking year for small business growth Friday with the Indiana Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and Indiana Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) helping launch 318 small businesses and secure $86.3 million in government contracts for Indiana businesses, respectively, in 2018. Traffic Crimes Bill Amended

The Senate Committee on Corrections and Criminal Law heard Sen. Koch’s SB 186 on enhancing penalties for some traffic crimes, like Operating While Intoxicated crimes and Leaving the Scene of the Accident, and consecutive sentencing for certain OWI crimes. The bill was amended in hearing to create a new crime of OWI resulting in catastrophic injury. This will carry the same penalty as OWI causing death. A representative from the Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys Council, victims, and and two county prosecutors testified in support of the bill. A representative from the Indiana Public Defenders Council testified in opposition of the bill.
