Drug Take Back Day April 27th

Saturday April 27th, from 10am-2pm Chesterton Police will be participating in the D.E.A. National Prescription Drug Takeback Day. Officers will be in the parking lot on the south side of Broadway across from the Police Department. They cannot accept liquids, needles, or aerosol cans/inhalers. La Porte County Sheriff’s Office will also be participating. Any citizen with unused or unwanted prescription medications may bring them to the drop-off site in a plastic “Ziploc” style bag. South Shore Line (SSL) recognizes the continued loyalty of monthly ticket holders and wants to express their gratitude by offering a promotion for monthly ticket holders in early May. March Indiana Employment Report

Indiana’s unemployment rate stands at 3.6 percent for March and remains lower than the national rate of 3.8 percent. With the exception of one month when it was equal (October 2014), Indiana's unemployment rate now has been below the U.S. rate for more than five years. The monthly unemployment rate is a U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) indicator that reflects the number of unemployed people seeking employment within the prior four weeks as a percentage of the labor force.Indiana’s labor force had a net increase of 6,769 over the previous month. La Porte Police Reminding Public To Use Their Medication Drop Box

The La Porte Police are reminding residents, to not forget unused/ expired medications. The La Porte Police Department has a medication drop box located in the front lobby and it can be accessed during normal business hours.LPPD also mentioned that you should not dispose unwanted medications by throwing in the trash or flushing, where it can end up in the groundwater or drinking water supply.

“Cat” Causes Crash, Leads To OWI

A single vehicle crash resulted in the driver being arrested on multiple charges after stating a “cat” may have caused the crash.Investigation by Trooper William Carlson revealed, Thursday evening, at approximately 9:20 p.m., he responded to a single vehicle crash on I-94 east bound to U.S. 20 exit ramp (Porter/Chesterton exit).  Twenty-three year old David R. Sutphin, of North Judson, was driving a Saturn when he lost control on the ramp and went into a ditch. His 20-year-old female passenger also from North Judson began to have a medical emergency and responding EMS from Chesterton were able to revive her.

Trout season on inland streams opens April 27

Thousands of stocked trout will be available to Indiana anglers on opening day of inland stream trout fishing on Saturday, April 27. In order to protect stocked trout, certain streams are closed to all fishing from April 15 until opening day. In addition, some sections of streams are designated as year-round “catch and release only,” and “artificial lures or flies only.” The DNR will have stocked 23,425 rainbow trout in 17 streams covering 12 counties for the opener. The stocked trout come from Curtis Creek Trout Rearing Station near Howe in LaGrange County and average roughly 11 inches in length.

Governor Eric J. Holcomb appointed Sue McCloskey to the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) Board of Directors today. Prior to establishing Fair Oaks Farms, McCloskey and her husband ran a successful dairy veterinary consulting practice in southern California before moving to New Mexico to start a 5,000-cow dairy farm. In New Mexico, they created Select Milk Producers, which is currently the fifth largest milk cooperative in the country.
