The Indiana State Board of Education (Board) met Wednesday for its monthly business meeting. Based on community feedback gathered at five public meetings over the course of six months, the School Transition Task Force assembled recommendations for next steps for three turnaround academies located in Indianapolis. The schools, currently operated by Charter Schools USA (CSUSA), are: TC Howe Community High School, Emmerich Manual High School, and Emma Donnan Middle School. Work is set to begin Monday, March 18, on an intersection improvement project at U.S. 20 and SR 2 in Rolling Prairie. This project will see a “dogbone” interchange built at this location, eliminating the traffic signal and creating a bridge carrying motorists north-south with east-west traffic passing underneath. Roundabouts will be placed at the north and south ends of the bridge, creating the so-called “dogbone”. Holcomb attended his first meeting of the American Workforce Policy Advisory Board in Washington D.C. yesterday where he shared that more Hoosiers are achieving education and training beyond high school due in part to his Next Level Jobs initiative.The number of Hoosiers with education beyond a high school diploma reached 43.4 percent in 2018, bringing Indiana closer to its 60 percent attainment goal by 2025. A Gary man was arrested Thursday evening when he was involved in a road rage incident that started in Lake Station and ended with him shooting at a car that had a two year old child inside. The suspect, later identified as 25 year old Davonte Biddings of Gary, was detained and taken to the Lowell state police post. Troopers located two guns in Biddings' car. While Biddings was at the Lowell state police post video cameras caught Biddings trying to hide something in his underwear, which resulted in their finding marijuana. Overnight Wednesday, deputies responded to a tractor trailer rollover crash on US 30 near CR 600 West (South Central School Road). The semi was removed from the scene. However, a 60,000 pound coil of steel remained at the scene.The towing agency, brought a heavy duty crane to the scene to remove the coil. Due to the size of the crane and the room needed, the westbound lanes of US 30 were closed.  US 30 was closed for around an hour and a half, between SR 39 and US 421.
