INDIANAPOLIS — Hoosiers age 70 and older can now begin scheduling appointments to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.Appointments can be scheduled by visiting https://ourshot.in.gov. Those needing assistance with registration can call 211 or one of Indiana’s Area Agencies on Aging. A caregiver or loved one also may make an appointment on behalf of an eligible senior.More information will be provided during Governor Holcomb’s weekly press conference at 2:30 p.m. today. Since 1949, Purdue University agriculture alumni have gathered for an annual meeting and fish fry. This morning at 11:00 a.m., troopers responded to a single vehicle crash on I-94 westbound at the 37.3 mile-marker.  Preliminary investigation by M/Trp. Brandon Lankford revealed that a black 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup was in the right lane when the driver suffered a medical event.  The driver lost control of the vehicle resulting in it changing lanes.  The passenger in the vehicle attempted to gain control of the truck, however it struck the outer guardrail and rolled over onto its driver’s side.  The passenger was transported to Franciscan Health Hospital in Michigan City with non-life-threatening injuries.  The driver was

City of La Porte Police officers responded over the weekend to a shooting at a local bar, according to Chief of Detectives Sgt. Jim Ferguson.  In the early morning hours of Saturday, January 9, officers were dispatched to Lucky Bar, located at 1004 Lincolnway in La Porte, regarding a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers found a male victim who had sustained a gunshot wound. The victim was then transported to IU Method Hospital in Indianapolis where he is currently in stable condition. The Indiana Department of Health today announced that a new strain of the virus that causes COVID-19 has been identified in Indiana. The strain, which was identified through testing at the Department of Health laboratory and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is the same one identified in the United Kingdom last fall. On January 7, 2021, at approximately 11:30 AM, a LCSO highway interdiction deputy was monitoring traffic along the Indiana Toll Road (I-80/90) in the area of the 45-mile marker.  He observed an eastbound sport utility vehicle quickly change lanes and while doing so commit a traffic infraction.  The deputy began to travel eastbound to catch up to the vehicle.  In the area of the 46-mile marker, the vehicle changed lanes again and while doing so committed another traffic infraction.  The deputy paced the vehicle and noted that it was also exceeding the posted speed limit.   In the area of the 47-mile marker, the deputy

City of La Porte Police officers responded yesterday to what became an eight-hour standoff with a subject, according to Police Chief Paul Brettin.  At 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 6, the LaPorte County FAST Team and the City of La Porte Detectives Bureau attempted to serve arrest and search warrants to an individual on the 200 block of Belden Street. Upon contact, the subject barricaded themselves inside the home, indicating they would cause harm to themselves should the officers enter.
