The Salvation Army of Michigan City has launched an online auction to help support its annual Christmas Campaign. This year, The Salvation Army has set a goal of $200,000 which would help provide Christmas toys and food to local families in need, as well as year-round services. This holiday season, the IBA is again partnering with Foster the Need for its annual giving project. Foster the Need was developed in 2018 by IBA-member bankers as part of an IBA Leadership Development Program project. The program provides much-needed items to foster children across Indiana, such as hygiene products, clothing and books, in coordination with the Indiana Department of Child Services. INDOT Reminding Drivers To Drive Safe After Attenuator Struck

INDOT Northwest says that yesterday they had a close call with one of their maintenance crews working on Cline Ave. A vehicle crashed into the back of a truck mounted attenuator, causing major damage to the attenuator and the vehicle that struck it. Thankfully, the attenuator did it's job and there were no serious injuries reported.INDOT says they use truck mounted attenuators (TMAs) as a safety precaution when a crew is out working in the roadway. December blood drives provide crucial opportunity to replenish blood supply during COVID-19 pandemic

With blood supplies at critically low levels during the COVID-19 pandemic, an emergency appeal to donors is being made for three December blood drives scheduled at Franciscan Health Michigan City and Franciscan Health Fitness Centers in Schererville. The blood drives held by Versiti Blood Center will be 10AM to 3PM on Monday, Dec. 7 and Friday, Dec. 18 at Franciscan Health Michigan City. MICHIGAN CITY MAN ARRESTED FOR PUBLIC NUDITY

On Friday, at 12:58 AM, deputies were dispatched to Franciscan Health - Michigan City Campus (3500 Franciscan Way), reference a subject being observed on camera exposing himself in the parking lot.   Captain Andy Hynek arrived and encountered hospital security staff near a subject in the parking lot.  The subject was identified as Eric K. MAJIED (56 YOA).  Captain Hynek quickly learned MAJIED had just defecated on a curb near his vehicle.  MAJIED was uncooperative and soon taken into custody.   Deputy Slawek Czupryna arrived and transported MAJIED to the LaPorte County Jail (LCJ).  He was arrested for Public Nudity (B-Misdemeanor) and remains

SERIOUS VIOLENT FELON IN POSSESSION OF A FIREARM ARRESTED

On Friday (11/27/20) at 2:35 PM, Deputy Wade Wallace was traveling west on US 20 in the 3500 east block.  Just ahead, a passenger vehicle was traveling west in the driving lane.  Near the 2800 east block, the vehicle merged from the driving lane to the passing lane.  While executing said lane change, the vehicle committed a traffic infraction.   A registration check conducted by Deputy Wallace determined the registered owner, Jeffery W. Kim Nowatzke wrote a brilliant article in February’s weekly magazine “The Beacher”, honoring local hero Charles R. Westcott along with, Albertine Allen, Larry Gipson, Vernon Payne, Gene Simmons, and Allen Williams. The Michigan City Public Art Committee (MAC) commissions large posters of that article and put them in the kiosk at Charles R. Westcott Park for public viewing. In 2011, the Charles R. Franciscan Healths’s 4th Annual Diaper Drive

Franciscan Health is thanking the generosity of the community for making the fourth annual Diaper Drive their most successful ever. Donations of diapers and monetary contributions combined for 44,198 diapers, which will be distributed to help meet the needs of families in Northwest Indiana and the South Suburbs.
