Governor Announces Judicial Appointment for Lake County Superior Court Vacancy

Yesterday, Governor Holcomb announced Kristina Kantar as his appointment to the Lake County Superior Court to succeed Judge Diane Kavadias Schneider who retired in February. Kantar was one of three finalists selected by the Lake County Judicial Nominating Commission. Kantar currently serves as the corporation counsel for the City of Hammond, a position she has held since 2004. In addition to this position, Kantar has also served as judge of the Lake Station City court for two different periods of time and engaged in private practice. Purdue Northwest’s College of Technology awarded coveted national cybersecurity designation a second time

Two Arrested After Search Warrant In Porter County Involving Drugs, Guns

This past Thursday, investigators assigned to the Porter County Multi-Enforcement Group (PCMEG), assisted by the DEA and Portage SWAT, executed a search warrant at a residence located at the 5600 block of Carnation Ave. in Portage. Indiana’s Todd Leininger released from Venezuela after being imprisoned since 2014

Todd Leininger from Bloomington had been imprisoned in Venezuela since April 2014 when he was convicted by a Venezuelan court in the midst of anti-government protests. Many questions remain over the due process afforded to Leininger during that trial. Consistent with law, a Venezuelan court issued an order for his conditional release on May 23, 2018. In November 2018, that same court again ordered his release, but until now the Venezuelan authorities refused to comply with the order. Valparaiso Suspicious Vehicle from April 8th Identified

On April 8th, the Valparaiso Police were advised of a suspicious vehicle in the 2500 block of Tea Rose Dr. that had passed students waiting for their bus with a sliding side door open.  The mini-van in question was located on April 25, and reported to police. Michigan City Police and Crime Stoppers Looking For More Information On March Homicide

The Michigan City Police Department along with Chief Mark Swistek, have partnered with the Michiana Crime Stoppers to assist in obtaining witness information on a recent homicide that occurred in Michigan City. On March 30, 2019, Darrell Edwards was shot and killed during a gathering at 1013 Holliday St. in Michigan City, Indiana. The Michigan City Police Department have spoken to numerous witnesses who were present during this gathering but believe that there are additional individuals who were present that have not been interviewed. Fatal Accident on Indiana Toll Road

22 year old James J. Ariel of Chicago, Illinois died Saturday morning as a result of a single vehicle crash, west bound on the Indiana Toll Road (I-80/90). Preliminary investigation by Trooper Chris Eagles revealed that Regional Dispatch for the Indiana Toll Road received 911 call advising of a single vehicle on fire in the area of where the entrance ramp from I-65 north bound to the Toll Road merges to I-80/90 west bound. Deputies Graduate from Northwest Indiana Law Enforcement Academy

Sheriff John T. Boyd announces the graduation of five (5) deputies from the Northwest Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (NILEA). On January 14, 2019, Deputies Tyler Oberholtzer, Alex Clemons, Jet Balenia, Evan Doperalski and Derrick Deck began 15 weeks of intense paramilitary based law enforcement training at NILEA, located in Hobart, Indiana. Indiana Gold Star Memorial Monument Committee kicks off $150,000 fundraising campaign to build memorial in Indianapolis

The Indiana War Memorial Commission and the State of Indiana has approved the building site and design to erect a tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom and those they left behind. It has been almost 25 years since a memorial has been built on the American Legion mall in downtown Indianapolis.
