Soliday’s proposal to bring data centers to IN advances

State Rep. Ed Soliday’s (R-Valparaiso) legislation incentivizing data centers to locate in Indiana recently advanced out of the House of Representatives. Data centers house servers that collect, store and process large amounts of data. According to Soliday, data centers can lead to significant economic growth through job creation and development of other data-dependent industries. Under this legislation, cities and counties may offer property tax exemptions and the state may offer sales tax exemptions to data centers planning to invest at least $25 million.

Pep Rally, Fire/Police Department Escort Planned for Marquette Friday Morning

Franciscan Health Michigan City celebrates Horizon Bank and NIPSCO for donations to hospital’s community room and café

Franciscan Health Michigan City and the Franciscan Health Foundation saluted Horizon Bank and NIPSCO last week for their generous gifts to two community spaces at the new hospital.Horizon Bank’s $25,000 gift went to support the Blessed Maria Theresia Bonzel Community Room, a meeting space on the hospital’s first floor. NIPSCO’s $25,000 gift supports the Dunes Café, the hospital’s dining area. Semi Crashes and Catches Fire

A semi crashed on I-80/94 early Wednesday morning, then caught fire destroying its tractor and damaging its trailer. Preliminary investigation by Sergeant Dwayne Dillahunty revealed at approximately 1:25 a.m., a Kenworth tractor pulling a loaded low boy trailer (industrial washer), and driven by a 61 year old Arizona man, was eastbound on I-80/94 when he entered the far right merge lane to I-80/90 (Indiana Toll Road). The semi ran off the roadway and struck the impact attenuator. The impact resulted in the tractor catching fire that totally destroyed the tractor and the front end of the trailer sustained damage.  The

Application Period Open for 2019 National Youth Preparedness Council

On Tuesday, FEMA announced the application period is now open for the 2019 National Youth Preparedness Council. This program brings teens together from across the country who are interested in community preparedness. South Shore Line to Offer Discounts to Monthly Pass Holders

South Shore Line will be offering 10% discounts on monthly passes during the month of March.During the polar vortex, South Shore Line services were suspended for several days due to the extreme temperatures. Crews ran tests throughout the day and night during this time to determine whether rail lines were safe. Unfortunately, the record-breaking temperatures caused problems ranging from downed electrical lines on South Shore Line’s tracks to damage on Metra Electric District tracks that the SSL runs on in Illinois, resulting in cancelled service on both train lines. Mayor Ron Meer is proud to announce the City of Michigan City’s recent inclusion in the State of Indiana’s Lead-based paint remediation program which is sponsored by Medicaid and administered through the Indiana State Department of Health. Home owners, Landlords, and Renters who live in a home, or own a home, built before 1978 can receive a free home inspection to determine if the residents are being exposed to lead-based paint hazards. First Phase of Reconstruction To Begin On La Porte Overpass

Starting on Monday, March 4, 2019, the first phase of reconstruction will begin on the U.S. Hwy 35 (Simcox) overpass in La Porte. During this time, northbound travel lanes will be closed. North bound traffic will be diverted over to the south bound lanes. Travel lanes will be 10 ft. wide, and will still be accessible to semi and larger truck traffic. The bridge will remain open to pedestrians. Two Wisconsin Men Arrested On Toll Road

Two men from Wisconsin were arrested late last night when they were stopped on the Indiana Toll Road for traffic violations.Preliminary investigation by Troopers Ala’a Hamed and Logan Hensley revealed that just after 11:30 p.m., Monday, while driving westbound on the Indiana Toll Road at the 5.3 mile marker, they noticed a pick-up in the left lane going at a slow rate of speed in a posted 70 mile per hour zone, weaving from side to side, and making multiple unsafe lane movements. Roll Over Crash Injures Three In Lake County

A single vehicle crash on I-65, Monday evening, injured all three people when their car rolled over. Investigation showed that just before 10pm Monday evening, a Hyundai was south bound on I-65, about one mile south of the Lowell exit, driven by 18 year old Kenneth Dean, of Chicago, when for unknown reasons went off the road to the right. The Hyundai traveled a ditch and rolled over numerous times, coming to rest in an open field. Dean sustained head injury which he refused medical treatment.  Two passengers, from Kentucky also sustained injuries and both also refused medical treatment. The
