Ogden Dunes Police sent out an advisory Monday that there is currently a scam involving the scammers claiming to be the United States Postal Service. “If you receive a text from someone claiming to be from the USPS stating they have a package that is undeliverable, this is a scam,” police said in the advisory. Police also said that the post office will leave a notice in your mailbox and that the post office will not call or text you. “Please do not click on any links or give out any personal information,” ODPD said in the advisory. “Again, this

U-haul van with stolen goods leads police on pursuit, driver not found

A U-Haul van with $75,000 in stolen goods led police on a pursuit Monday through Lake County, ending in Chicago where the passenger being arrested but the driver was not found. Sometime around 2 a.m. Monday, Lake County Sheriff’s Department police officers were advised that Hobart police were in pursuit of a U-Haul van that fled from the scene of burglary reported at Sunbelt Rentals at 1851 Northwind Parkway in Hobart. Man arrested after stabbing at Valparaiso Planet Fitness

A man was arrested Sunday following an alleged stabbing that happened at Planet Fitness in Valparaiso. Police say at about 9:00 a.m., they responded to Planet Fitness, located at 1270 Strongbow Centre Dr., in reference to a man who had sustained a knife wound.  Police say the incident is believed to be isolated to the subjects involved and there is no ongoing threat to the public.  Police identified 24-year-old Jordan Andrade of Porter Township as the suspect. Homicide Arrest in Michigan City

On 10/26/23, at approximately 9:12pm, the Raven Gunshot Detection system issued an alert regarding multiple gunshots being fired in the 200 block of Calumet Avenue. Moments later, the LaPorte County 911 Regional Dispatch Center began receiving calls indicating a person had been shot at 201 Calumet. City of Portage informing residents of leaf pick up policy

The City of Portage is informing residents of their leaf pick up season policy. The city stated the following on its Facebook page: Leaf Pick Up Season - Portage City Policy Last leaf season, the city's Street Department spent 34 working days and serviced 462 leaf loads throughout the routes. PORTER COUNTY, Ind. - An Indiana Department of Transportation contractor will close the ramp from southbound State Road 249/Port of Indiana to U.S. 12 on or after Friday, Nov. 3. Porter police officer injured apprehending burglary suspect

A Porter police officer was injured while apprehending a burglary suspect, according to the Porter Police Department. Early Friday, Porter Police responded to assist the Burns Harbor Police Department with a reported burglary in progress. Upon arriving, a Porter officer encountered the suspect who was fleeing the scene. During the apprehension of the suspect — who was physically resisting arrest — a Porter officer sustained a serious but non-life threatening injury that required transport by EMS. Franciscan Health is offering $49 self-pay lung scans on Saturday, Nov. 11 in honor of National Lung Screening Day. Police investigate fatal crash in LaPorte County

A 16-year old has died after a crash that occurred Thursday morning in LaPorte County. Just after 7:10 a.m. deputies were dispatched to the intersection of U.S. 6 and County Road 425 West in reference to a crash. Deputies were advised a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) and pickup truck were the involved vehicles.
