Walorski Renews Concerns Over Lack of Fairness in Tariff Exclusion Process

U.S. Rep. Jackie Walorski (R-Ind.) this week sent Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross a second letter in as many months to outline her growing concerns that U.S. manufacturers and small businesses seeking relief from steel and aluminum tariffs are being treated unfairly. Walorski has not yet received a response to her letter dated March 11th, that raised questions about the product exclusion process.

Franciscan Health Michigan City raises flag for organ donation during Donate Life Month remembrance celebration

On the final day of National Donate Life Month, Franciscan Health Michigan City honored organ donors and their families with a remembrance celebration and by raising a Donate Life flag in front of the hospital.The celebration was held in partnership with Indiana Donor Network and VisionFirst on April 30 in the hospital chapel. The Donate Life flag raising ceremony was followed by a donor registration drive.

The New Carlisle would like the public to know there has been a recent influx in thefts from unlocked vehicles. They are reminding residents to remember to keep all vehicles and doors locked. Indiana BMV Extended Hours

The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) announced that branches in counties holding a primary election will extend hours of operation next week. Branches will be open on Monday, May 6, from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday, May 7, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. to issue ID cards and driver’s licenses to be used for identification at a polling place. The following branches do not have scheduled elections in their counties and will operate on an adjusted holiday schedule. Visclosky Announces EPA Award for New School Buses for School City of East Chicago

Congressman Visclosky announced yesterday that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has selected the School City of East Chicago to receive an award for new school buses.Specifically, the School City of East Chicago will receive $100,000 through the EPA’s Diesel Emissions Reduction Act program to assist the replacement of five school buses.In general, this program awards rebates up to $20,000 for school corporations to replace buses with engine models from years from 2006 or older.  According to the EPA, older diesel school bus engines emit large amounts of pollutants such as nitrogen oxides and particulate matter, which are linked to instances

East Chicago Station improvement project

The South Shore Line announces that construction is set to begin that will add a second entrance/exit to the East Chicago Station platform. The project is expected to begin Monday, April 29, through December 2019, and will help accommodate the large influx of passengers at East Chicago Station.
