An Indiana Department of Transportation contractor will have ramp closures at State Road 912/Cline Avenue and I-94 beginning on or after Tuesday, April 23. The ramp from southbound State Road 912 to westbound I-94 will close first and remain closed through late May. When that ramp reopens, the ramp from southbound State Road 912 to eastbound I-94 will close. These closures are to conduct bridge deck overlay work on the ramp bridges over 25th Avenue. Detectives with the Lake County Sheriff’s Department are asking for the public’s help in locating suspects in a shooting where a stray bullet wounded a man inside an apartment building nearby. Police say it happened Saturday, April 13 sometime after 1:30 p.m.  A group of young men, possibly in their early 20s had been playing basketball and gathering near the court at the Tiberon Trails apartment complex at 1240 W. 52nd Drive in unincorporated Merrillville. The South Shore Line announced Tuesday that it will be permanently closing its Carroll Avenue and Millennium Station  ticket offices. The offices will close Friday, April 26. “After careful consideration and review of usage, the closures will allow the SSL to better allocate ticket agent resources,” the South Shore Line said in a statement. “Currently, nearly 85% of SSL ticket purchases are digital (including 62% via the mobile app and 22% via station Ticket Vending Machines). Indiana State Police arrested three juveniles after a pursuit Monday night in Michigan City. At about 10:15 p.m., a was patrolling in Michigan City when a dispatch went out of a shooting that had just occurred in Michigan City.  The suspect vehicle was reported stolen and described as a white Volkswagen Jetta. LAKE COUNTY, Ind. - State Road 55 will be closed between State Road 2 and State Road 10 on or after Monday, April 22 through late June for two consecutive projects. State Road 55 will first be closed between 191st Avenue and 203rd Avenue for a bridge deck overlay over Griesel Ditch. This project will take approximately one month, and then the closure will be between 203rd Avenue and 205th Avenue for a bridge deck overlay over Singleton Ditch. Motorists should seek alternate routes. The official detour for both closures will follow State Road 2, I-65 and State Road 10.

Since 2021, deputies have responded to an alarming number of calls for service (CFS) located at 2866 South CR 550 West. The 15 CFS to the residence have included an alleged sexual battery, narcotic overdoses, thefts, noise and fire complaints, to name a few, and the most recent on April 10th, where deputies responded to a fight involving several subjects. The LaPorte County E-911 Regional Dispatch Center received a 911 call on April 13th, 2024, at approximately 8:14 PM regarding a vehicle vs. motorcycle crash in front of Wendy’s, located at 3715 Franklin Street. The LaPorte County E-911 Regional Dispatch Center informed responding officers one of the two occupants riding a motorcycle had been ejected. Responding officers arrived quickly to the scene and located one of the motorcycle occupants suffering from a serious bodily injury.
