Passengers are advised the South Shore Line intends to operate its regular weekend/holiday train schedule throughout the NASCAR Chicago Street Race taking place in Grant Park on Saturday-Sunday, July 6-7: Any disruptions or changes in service will be promptly posted to the SSL website, the South Shore mobile app, and via email/text notifications (click here to sign up). Man arrested hours after La Porte Police make social media post seeking assistance

La Porte Police arrested a man just hours after seeking the public’s help on social media. In just under 8 hours, after police made their “Wanted Wednesday Post” on Facebook, police took 38-year-old Dustin Mueller into custody. Mueller was wanted by the La Porte Police Department on 5 active arrest warrants including Possession of Methamphetamine and Resisting Law Enforcement. Cpl. Jaskowiak received information from another agency about a possible location of Mueller. INDOT to host public hearing for U.S. 231 and Parrish Avenue in Lake County

LAKE COUNTY, Ind. - The Indiana Department of Transportation will host a public hearing the evening of Thursday, July 11 regarding a proposed intersection improvement project for U.S. 231 and Parrish Avenue. The proposed project involves the construction of a roundabout with dual lane approaches on U.S. 231 and single lane approaches on Parrish Ave. The existing signal infrastructure will be removed, and new signing and lighting will be added. U.S. 421 to close between Wanatah and La Crosse

LAPORTE COUNTY, Ind. - Indiana Department of Transportation maintenance crews will conduct seal coating operations resulting in a road closure on U.S. 421 beginning on or after Monday, July 8. U.S. 421 will be closed between U.S. 30 and State Road 8 for approximately three days. The detour will follow U.S. 30, State Road 39 and State Road 8. City of Michigan City Independence Day closures

City Hall of Michigan City will be closed Thursday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day. The Michigan City Transit and Refuse departments will be closed as well, meaning bus service will not run on Thursday, nor will trash and compost pick-up. Trash and compost pickup will resume on Friday, July 5; and any incomplete routes will be finished on Saturday, July 6.

I-65 to have overnight lane closures south of State Road 114

JASPER COUNTY, Ind. - An Indiana Department of Transportation contractor will have shoulder closures and overnight lane closures on I-65 just south of State Road 114 beginning on or after Monday, July 8. Crews will be conducting bridge deck patching and scour protection at Martindale Ditch, approximately 0.5 miles south of State Road 114, through early September. Shoulder closures will be in place through the duration of work. One lane will be closed in each direction overnight. Chicago woman accused of threatening, biting trooper during traffic stop arrest

PORTER COUNTY- A Chicago woman allegedly threatened and bit an Indiana State Trooper during a traffic arrest, according to the Indiana State Police. On Saturday, June 29, at about 6:40 p.m., the trooper was patrolling I-94 east of the truck weigh station when he observed a vehicle approaching him from behind at a high rate of speed.  The vehicle, a Hyundai with Illinois registration, passed the trooper in his fully marked police car as the trooper was also traveling eastbound. Vehicles hit by gunfire in Portage, police seeking public’s assistance

The Portage Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance on information regarding two vehicles being struck by gunfire last week. On Thursday, June 27 at about 2:50 p.m. officers responded to the 6700 block of Daniel Burnham Drive in reference to a report of shots fired in the parking lot of a business.  Upon arrival officers determined that no one was injured but two vehicles were struck by gunfire.  Witnesses reported a lone male wearing an orange safety vest and a black mask entered into the parking lot on foot before firing several rounds from a handgun toward the vehicles
