Clay Turner Executive Director of the LaPorte County Solid Waste District announces his retirement effective April 3, 2026. Hired on October 9, 2006 and serving as director for nearly 20 years, Clay is looking forward to spending more time with his family. Clay also served 11 years on the LaPorte City Council 1984-1995, eight years on the LaPorte County Board of Commissioners 1997-2004 and served on the LaPorte Board of Public Works and Safety under three different Mayors. SOUTH BEND – On March 19, 2026, 43-year old Edwardo Trevino, of LaPorte, Indiana, was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Cristal C. Brisco after a jury convicted him of distribution of methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, announced United States Attorney Adam L. Mildred. Trevino was sentenced to 100 months in prison followed by 3 years of supervised release. According to documents in the case, Trevino sold methamphetamine to another person. Two people were injured in a crash with vehicle entrapment Monday in Starke County. Sheriff Jack Rosa made the following statement on the crash: On March 22, 2026, at approximately 9:24 p.m., the Starke County Sheriff’s Department, along with Starke County EMS, San Pierre Fire Department, and Wheatfield EMS, responded to a reported two-vehicle rollover crash with entrapment at the intersection of State Road 10 and County Road 1200 West (County Line Road). The Indiana Department of Transportation will host a hearing to offer the public an opportunity to review and comment on preliminary design plans regarding a proposed intersection improvement project at State Road 2 and Larrison Blvd/Strawberry Rd.   As proposed, the project involves converting the existing two-way stop-controlled intersection to a grade-separated interchange with a design referred to as a diverging diamond. The interchange will include constructing two bridges carrying Larrison Blvd/Strawberry Rd over S.R. 2, four single-lane interchange ramps, widening Larrison Blvd/Strawberry Rd approaching the interchange, and installing traffic signals north and south of S.R. 2 to control traffic
