Krueger Middle School Student Selected to Perform at Carnegie Hall

Michigan City, IN -- March 25, 2020 -- Joie Nichols, a student at Krueger Middle School, has been selected for the 2020 Middle School Honors Performance Series in late June with the Honors Junior Choir. Participation in one of the Honors Ensembles is limited to the highest-rated middle school performers from across North America and select schools internationally. Disturbance Results in One Arrested

The Valparaiso Police Department responded to the 1300 block of Forest Park Ave. Tuesday evening at approximately 8:40 p.m. to investigate the report of a disturbance. The reported disturbance had occurred earlier in the day and police arrived to speak with the male subject involved in the incident. Upon arrival, the male initially declined to speak with officers; however, eventually was called to the front of the home by police. The investigation resulted in the male subject being taken into custody on charges of Domestic Battery and Intimidation. The male was identified as 43 year old Barry Smith of Valparaiso.

HEALTH DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES 5 NEW COVID-19 DEATHS, UPDATES STATEWIDE CASE COUNT

The Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) Tuesday reported 107 new positive cases of COVID-19, bringing to 365 the number of Hoosiers diagnosed through ISDH, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and private laboratories. Twelve Hoosiers have died. A total of 2,931 tests have been reported to ISDH to date, up from 1,960 on Monday. Marion County had the most new cases, at 51. The Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) on Monday reported 58 new positive cases of COVID-19, bringing to 259 the number of Hoosiers diagnosed through ISDH, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and private laboratories. Meals on Wheels La Porte County is an essential service and at this time will continue to deliver meals Monday-Friday. Modified delivery procedures have been implemented. No touch delivery with gloves and bags. Clients have been provided 7 meal blizzard boxes—shelf stable meals for winter weather closings, 5 meals remain after 2 snow days in the event we are not able to deliver. Michigan City Police Department Investigating Shooting of Subject from Fort Wayne

During the late evening hours of Saturday March 21st, 2020; Michigan City Police Department Shift II Patrol Units were dispatched to the area of 11th Street and Lafayette Street for a report of shots being fired. While patrol units were in the area checking on this complaint, officers were then dispatched to Franciscan St. Anthony Hospital for a subject that arrived in the ER with a gunshot wound. Off-duty Michigan City Police Department officers that were working security for Franciscan St. Anthony advised responding units that the vehicle that had dropped off the gunshot victim was leaving the parking lot.

Triple Digit Speeder Arrested for O.W.I.

Early Sunday morning, just after midnight, Senior Trooper Anthony Potesta was patrolling I-80/94 near Broadway. A black Dodge Challenger passed the officer at an extremely high rate of speed. Trooper Potesta was able to catch up to the Challenger and checked the vehicle's speed at 145 m.p.h.. The speed limit on I-80/94 is posted 55 mph. A traffic stop was initiated on the Dodge near Ripley St. Further investigation lead the trooper to believe that the driver was impaired. The driver voluntarily performed field sobriety tests and submitted to a certified breath test. That certified test showed his blood alcohol
