Two Year Old Presented Gifts From First Responders For Helping During Mother’s Medical Emergency

New School Administrators at Jackson Elementary School and Chesterton Middle School

The Duneland School Corporation has named new administrators at Jackson Elementary School and Chesterton Middle School for the 2019-2020 school year. Samuel J. Marshall has been named the new principal at Jackson Elementary School. Mr. Marshall will be replacing Dr. Linda Rugg who resigned her position as principal in June after 19 years. Michael Hamacher has been named the new principal at Chesterton Middle School. Mr. Hamacher will be replacing Mike Megyesi who resigned his position as principal after eight years.

The National Weather Service in Northern Indiana has issued an Excessive Heat Warning which is in effect from 2 PM EDT /1 PM CDT/ Thursday to 8 PM EDT /7 PM CDT/ Saturday. The Excessive Heat Watch is no longer in effect for Indiana counties. Michigan City Area Schools online registration for the 2019-2020 school year has begun and runs through July 31. SR 933 paving in St. Joseph County

According to INDOT, there's been a slight change to the paving schedule for SR 933 in South Bend. The first two phases (Angela Boulevard to Douglas Road; Douglas Road to just south of Cleveland Road) are unchanged.Crews will then proceed from just north of Cleveland to the Michigan state line in the northbound right lane, before turning around and paving the southbound driving lane. I-65 and SR 10 Overnight Ramp Closures

There will be overnight ramp closures tonight and Thursday at the I-65 and SR 10 interchange while crews do underdrain work.Today, the ramps connecting southbound I-65 to SR 10 will close. Thursday, the ramps connecting northbound I-65 to SR 10 will close. Work is expected to wrap up Friday morning.

Citywide School Supply Drive Under Way

Seven local organizations have announced a community-wide school supply drive in Michigan City, which runs through August 5. Supplies collected during the drive will be distributed to area students who are in need of materials to start the school year. Many area businesses, including major retailers, have set up collection bins to accept donations from their employees and the general public.Businesses, churches, and other organizations are invited to join in the collection drive. Young, Toomey, Cotton Introduce Bill to Prevent Government Bailouts, Protect Taxpayers

Yesterday, U.S. Senators Todd Young (R-Ind.), Pat Toomey (R-Pa.), and Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) introduced the Government Bailout Prevention Act to ensure that federal dollars cannot be used to help insolvent state, territory, or local governments pay off their obligations. Under this bill, no arm of the federal government, including the Federal Reserve System and the U.S. Treasury Department, can pay or guarantee state and local obligations if that state or local government entity has filed bankruptcy, has defaulted on its debts, or is at risk of bankruptcy or default.

Pavement Project Delays Opening of Lift Bridge in East Chicago

INDOT announced a delay in reopening the Indianapolis Boulevard (U.S. 12/20) lift bridge in East Chicago due to challenges on site from a variety of factors. Crews have been working on two individual projects on Indianapolis Blvd., a bridge deck project on the lift bridge over Lake George Canal and a separate pavement project on Indianapolis Blvd. leading up to the lift bridge. The goal was to complete both projects and reopen the roadway/bridge in early July. Michigan City Police Receive Donation Assisting Purchase of New ATV

The Michigan City Police Department along with Chief Mark Swistek, would like to take the opportunity to publicly thank the Sheridan Beach Homeowners Association who recently assisted in the purchase of a Honda Police ATV Beach Patrol Unit. This $6,000.00 donation assists the Michigan City Police in the patrolling of the lakefront. The South Shore Line is inviting all educators to ride the SSL for free from July 15-21, 2019.

MCHS MCJROTC CADETS ATTEND NATIONAL MILITARY DRILL CAMP

Cadets from the Michigan City High School (MCHS) Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (MCJROTC) attended the National Drill Camp conducted by Sports Network International (SNI) at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas from July 7-13. SNI also conducts the National Marine and All-Service Drill Championship meets. Gov. Holcomb directs actions aimed at reducing Indiana’s smoking rate
