City of La Porte to receive nearly $1M in federal dollars for major infrastructure improvements

La PORTE, IN (July 1, 2024) – U.S. Congressman Frank Mrvan and La Porte Mayor Tom Dermody today announced the funding of a major infrastructure project along one of the city’s main thoroughfares. The City of La Porte is the recipient of over $959,000 in Community Project Funding from the federal government, which will assist the city’s ongoing efforts to replace combined sewers with new, separate sanitary and stormwater sewer facilities. Two Killed In Motorcycle Crash

On Saturday June 29, 2024 at 5:18 PM, the Porter County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to the area of Smoke Rd and Division Rd for a SUV vs motorcycle crash. Two people were on the motorcycle at the time of the crash, one was pronounced deceased on scene and the other was transported to an area hospital and pronounced deceased, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Preliminary investigation / witness statements revealed that the SUV was traveling northbound while the motorcycle was traveling westbound. Sunday Fatal Crash – July 1, 2024

Approximately 10:00 a.m. Sunday June 30, 2024, St. Joseph County Police were dispatched to the U.S. 31 Bypass and State Road 2 interchange for report of a fatal crash. Witnesses reported a red Chevy SUV traveling westbound on S.R. 2 lost control as it approached the Bypass interchange, first driving into the grass median, then striking the concrete supporting wall under the bridge, and finally coming to a stop in the northwest cloverleaf of the interchange. City of Michigan City cracking down on illegal dumping at public access site

Man convicted of abandonment/neglect to animals

Press Release, Sean Fagan, Prosecuting Attorney: On June 20, 2024, Michael Stalling was found guilty of two counts of Abandonment or Neglect of a Vertebrate Animal, a Class A misdemeanor. Michigan City man arrested on child pornography charges

A Michigan City Man is facing charges of possession of child pornography, according to the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office. On June 20, 2024, deputies arrested 39-year-old Steffano Alan Guess on two felony counts. Guess was taken into custody after a warrant was issued for his arrest.
