The Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) plans to stock nearly 52,000 trout this spring in anticipation of this year’s trout fishing season. Trout will be stocked in 37 bodies of water across 22 Indiana counties. Indiana DNR will stock streams with 20,850 rainbow trout in the weeks leading up to April 25, which is opening day of trout season for inland streams. In addition to the rainbow trout stockings, several bodies of water in the north and one southern stream are getting additional brown trout stockings. The Indiana State Police held their annual awards and recognition ceremony in Indianapolis Tuesday. The ceremony publicly recognized the achievements and accomplishments that too often go unrecognized. Troopers were honored for their dedication, service, bravery, and devotion to the department and the citizens of Indiana. Friday night, at approximately 6:51 PM, Indiana State Police troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on southbound I-65 at the 232.8 mile marker. This location is approximately 2.8 miles north of Exit 230 (State Road 10). The crash involved a Semi Tractor/Trailer and a GMC Sierra. The southbound lanes of I-65 were shut down in this area for approximately 3 hours. Preliminary investigation by Senior Trooper Kyle Glaze indicates that a Semi Tractor/Trailer was parked on the outside shoulder of I-65 for an unknown reason when a GMC Sierra crashed into the rear driver’s side of the trailer. News Release, Indiana Department of Natural Resources: The Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) confirmed three positive cases of chronic wasting disease (CWD) in wild white-tailed deer during the 2025-2026 hunting season in Noble, Franklin, and Rush counties. CWD is a neurological disease that affects deer, resulting in their eventual death. “Hunters play an important role in helping Indiana DNR monitor CWD in the deer herd. With their support, we are gaining a better understanding of the extent of this disease across the state,” said Joe Caudell, Indiana DNR deer biologist. In Porter and La Porte counties crews will conduct overnight lane closures on I-94 between mile marker 30 and 36 (east and west of U.S. 421) beginning on or after Tuesday, April 21 to set up a new traffic configuration. Overnight lane closures will occur on eastbound and westbound I-94 over the course of two evenings during the hours of 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. These lane closures were originally scheduled for last week but were postponed due to weather.
