The La Porte City Police Department conducted 79.5 hours of Seat Belt Enforcement patrols from April 1 through April 15. Focus was on the use of Seat Belts and Child Restraint violations.During their patrols, officers wrote at total of 90 citations, 116 warnings and had four arrests.  The citations include 74 for Seatbelt violations, six Other Violations, 6 Driving While Suspended citations, and 4 Speeding violations. A single vehicle crash resulted in the driver being arrested on multiple charges after stating a “cat” may have caused the crash. Officers will be in the parking lot on the south side of Broadway across from the Police Department. They cannot accept liquids, needles, or aerosol cans/inhalers.
