Demolition to begin on portions of former Franciscan Health Crown Point campus

Franciscan Health released the following statement on the demolition on portions of the former Franciscan Health Crown Point Campus: Demolition is slated to begin as early as next week on portions of the former Franciscan Health Crown Point campus as part of the overall transformation project.As originally announced in early July, the former bed tower and a portion of the first floor of the main hospital building are slated for demolition by Tonn and Blank Construction. Michigan City police engage in high speed pursuit

Michigan City Police say they engaged in a pursuit of a fleeing vehicle at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The incident concluded near U.S. 20 and North 200 East. Police say no civilians were harmed. MCPD says the investigation is ongoing, and additional information will be shared when available.

Porter County Sheriff’s Office warns of newest phone scam

The Porter County Sheriff’s Office says they have received information that family and friends of recently arrested people are getting telephone calls from supposed Law Enforcement to come to various businesses to pay a bond and also to pay a fee via an electronic payment for an ankle monitor. “This is a complete scam - please spread the word!  If something doesn’t seem right it most likely isn’t,” PCSO said.  “Our Department members will not call you for a bond, fee, ankle monitors, or any payment to avoid an arrest. When in doubt hang up and call our Department direct.

Two crashes on I-94 in Michigan City cause major delays, semi driver under investigation

Two crashes occurred on I-94 in the early evening Thursday in Michigan City, according to the Indiana State Police. At 6:11 p.m. police said there was a crash on I-94 eastbound at the 38 mile marker, which is one mile west of US 20 and 6 miles east of U.S. 421. Police said it was a multi-vehicle crash involving a rolled over semi in the median. All lanes were blocked. Early reports were that there were injuries and at least one person was trapped in their vehicle. At 6:43 p.m. the Indiana State Police reported that a second crash that

Press Release, Berrien County Sheriff’s Office: BERRIEN COUNTY, MI — On October 22, 2025, the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the Pokagon Band Tribal Police Department, Michigan City Police Department, and the Michigan State Police Southwest Enforcement Team (SWET-West), conducted a targeted human trafficking and sex trafficking enforcement operation in Berrien County. This multi-agency effort focused on identifying traffickers and locating and assisting victims of trafficking. Overnight lane closures on I-94 at U.S. 6/S.R. 51 this week in Lake County

In Lake County, there are overnight closures on I-94 at U.S. 6/State Road 51. The inside lanes of I-94 are closed in each direction between Clay Street and the Indiana Toll Road during the overnight hours of 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Friday, Oct. 24. A crane will be constructed in the median work zone for pile driving activities, which will begin on or after Monday, Oct. 27. Additional impacts to traffic are planned as bridge demolition and construction activities take place and will be communicated in advance. A Chesterton resident was defrauded when looking to purchase a puppy in an online transaction, according to the Chesterton Police and the Town of Chesterton Facebook page. Unity Foundation of La Porte County is pleased to recognize 10 local high school seniors as La Porte County finalists for the prestigious Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship. Multi-vehicle crash results in 1 fatality in Lake County

One person died following a multi-vehicle crash Tuesday morning in Lake County. According to the Indiana State Police, at around 10:45 a.m., troopers responded to a multi-vehicle crash on I-80 eastbound near the 6.4 mile-marker, located about 1.4 miles east of Cline Avenue in Gary. The initial investigation revealed that a white sedan was changing lanes in front of a semi tractor trailer while driving eastbound on I-80.
