Franciscan Health, Lake County Health Dept. team up for free outdoor walking program

CROWN POINT, Ind. – Franciscan Health is partnering with the Lake County Health Department to provide a free, four-week outdoor walking program this fall. Path to Wellness will take place Mondays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 27 through Nov. 21. Registration begins on-site at 9:45 a.m. at the main entrance of the Lake County Health Department, 2900 W. 93rd Ave. in Crown Point. In case of inclement weather, the walks will be canceled. The City of Michigan City announced Trick or Treat in Michigan City will take place on Friday, Oct. 31 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Uniformed Patrol Officers will be visible throughout the city during this time. Trunk-or-Treat at Michiana Humane Society

Michiana Humane Society will host Trunk-or-Treat on Sunday, October 26 from 12:30pm - 1:30pm CT. MCHS Cadet Earns Service Above Self Award

Michigan City High School (MCHS) senior Robert Pearce, a Cadet Staff Sergeant in the Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (MCJROTC)  earned the Service Above Self Award from the Michigan City Rotary Club. INDOT, ISP: Move Over and Slow Down for vehicles with flashing lights

Precautionary Boil Water Advisory in Ogden Dunes

Due to the water main break, the Ogden Dunes Water Department has issued a precautionary Boil Water Advisory. This advisory went into effect at 1:52 p.m. Thursday and is expected to remain in effect for approximately 48 hours. The Ogden Dunes Police Department also said the following: "It is recommended that all water used for cooking and drinking be boiled completely for five (5) minutes before use. One person shot in La Porte, two in custody

One person was shot and two people were arrested after a shooting in La Porte, according to the La Porte Police Department. On Wednesday at about 1:10 a.m., officers from the City of La Porte Police Department were dispatched to the Maple Tree Apartments, located at 1405 West 18th Street, in reference to a report of a man who had been shot. Upon arrival, officers located a man suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was provided immediate medical aid by first responders and transported to an area hospital for treatment. NIPSCO: Winter Heating Bills Forecasted to Increase Compared to Last Year

News Release, Northern Indiana Public Service Company LLC: Northern Indiana Public Service Company LLC (NIPSCO) announced today that natural gas residential customers can expect an increase in their winter heating bills this season compared to previous years. Based on current market projections and assuming normal winter weather, bills for natural gas residential customers are estimated to be 16 percent higher than last winter. Chesterton Police Department investigating theft from behind storefront downtown

The Chesterton Police Department is investigating the theft of tools and shop fixtures from behind a storefront in the 200 block of Broadway, the Town of Chesterton reported on their Facebook page. According to the CPD, sometime between 4:15 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, and 9:15 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, someone—or more likely two people—removed from the alley behind the business the following items: *Three white metal cabinets. *Assorted hand and power tools. *A large steel clothing rack. Chesterton Street Department to commence 2025 leaf collection program on Monday Oct 27

The Town of Chesterton announced that leaf collection will begin on Oct. 27. “We’re getting into the season where we have to talk about leaves,” Chesterton Street Commissioner told the Town Council at its meeting Monday night, Oct. 13. “We’re starting to get calls. There are leaf piles out there.” Schnadenberg announced that crews will begin this year’s five-week leaf collection program on Monday, Oct. 27.
