PORTER COUNTY, Ind. - Watch for overnight lane closures and lane shifts on eastbound and westbound I-94 between U.S. 20 in Burns Harbor and State Road 49 beginning Sunday, Oct. 24. From around 8 p.m. Sunday, October 24 to 6 a.m. Monday, Oct. 25, the two left lanes of I-94 will be closed in both directions. The Indiana State Department of health updated their weekly COVID county advisory level map on Wednesday. La Porte, Porter, and Lake counties remain at a score of 1.5, yellow level. St. Joseph County has moved down from a score of 2, orange level to a score of 1.5, yellow level. Starke County remains at a score of 3, red level. Jasper County remains at a score of 2.5, orange level. Newton County has moved up from a score of 1.5, yellow level to a score of 2, orange level. 

Franciscan Health hospitals in Crown Point and Michigan City have been recognized by the Indiana Hospital Association (IHA), in partnership with Governor Eric J. Holcomb and State Health Commissioner Kris Box, MD, for their commitment to infant and maternal health at the second annual INspire Hospital of Distinction recognition program. Franciscan Health Hammond also received a Center of Excellence distinction. INspire, funded by the Indiana Department of Health’s Safety PIN grant, was developed to implement the delivery of best practice care for Hoosier moms and babies and recognize hospitals for excellence in addressing key drivers of infant and maternal health.

The La Porte County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a death investigation in Michigan City.  On Tuesday, at around 12:09 pm, the La Porte County Regional 911 Center received a 911 call that reported that there was possibly a deceased person in a home located in the 3000 block of Edgebrook in Weatherstone Village mobile home park, which is located in Coolspring Township. Deputies arrived a short while later and attempted to establish contact with anyone inside the residence. Crisis Negotiators were eventually able to contact a person who was in the home and he agreed to exit without incident. Deputies

 Robotic lung surgery, a minimally invasive technique that has advantages over traditional surgical methods, is now benefiting patients at Franciscan Health Crown Point. During October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, staff at the Franciscan Health Breast Center Michigan City emphasize their work to remove barriers and enhance opportunities for early detection. Mammography technician Julie Lemon says women should get a mammogram at age 40, or earlier if their family has a history of breast cancer.  For a screening mammogram, an order from a doctor is not needed, but patients must have a doctor they have seen in recent years to take the report. Michigan City Police have released a video along with photos of the suspect involved in the Sept. 30 robbery of Horizon Bank.  The video has been posted to the Michigan City Police Department Facebook page. In LaPorte and Starke counties, U.S. 30 will be reduced to one lane in each direction between State Road 39 and U.S. 35 beginning "on or after" Monday, Oct. 18 for bridge work over the Kankakee River and Shearing Ditch. Lane closures will alternate between the passing and driving lanes. Work will be ongoing for approximately five days, and all schedules are weather dependent.
