Casey resigns as Laporte City planner

Director of Community Development and Planning Tom Casey announced his resignation today, according to La Porte Mayor Tom Dermody.   Casey, who was hired at the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, will end his time with the city on June 17.   "I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with the city, and I am thankful for the opportunity to have worked with Mayor Dermody and the rest of the leadership team," Casey said. What is Eco-Dye?   Eeco dyeing is a contemporary application of the traditions of natural dyeing. U.S. 12 to be closed east of junction with U.S. 20

LAKE COUNTY, Ind. - The Indiana Department of Transportation announces a road closure for U.S. 12 between the U.S. 12/20 junction and Old Hobart Rd beginning on or after Thursday, June 10. The road will be closed to realign where U.S. 12 merges with U.S. 20. Eastbound Train 203, departing Millennium Station at 6:10a and arriving at Gary Metro Center at 7:07a, is canceled through June 11. The cancellation is due to ongoing track construction that impacts track availability. Monday, June 14 service for Tr 203 will operate as regularly scheduled. Tennis Lessons In La Porte

Bridge work to begin on I-80/94 east of Illinois State Line

The Indiana Department of Transportation announces a bridge deck overlay project for I-80/94 from the Illinois State Line to Indianapolis Blvd beginning Friday, June 4. Work will start on the eastbound lanes, with four lanes remaining open during daytime hours through the life of the project. Overnight lane closures will be utilized to set up or reconfigure the work zone lane configuration approximately every seven days beginning overnight on June 4. Trout and salmon stocked in Lake Michigan and tributaries

DNR’s hatchery staff recently completed spring stockings for Lake Michigan and its tributaries, adding more than 589,100 trout and salmon to public waters.   Locations stocked include East Chicago Marina, East Branch Little Calumet River, Salt Creek, Trail Creek, and the St. Joseph River. Among the fish stocked were 90,280 brown trout fingerlings, 77,166 Coho salmon yearlings, 225,776 Skamania steelhead yearlings, and 195,915 Chinook salmon fingerlings.   Due to the COVID-related cancellation of the spring 2020 egg take at the Little Manistee Weir in Michigan, no winter-run steelhead yearlings were stocked. State’s New Youth-Employment System Goes Live

The Indiana Department of Labor’s new Youth Employment System, or YES, went live this morning, opening the door for Hoosier employers to begin using the system to comply with a new youth-employment law that goes into effect July 1. The new law requires Indiana employers who hire five or more minor employees (under age 18), per location, to list those employees in the new YES registry. Gov. Holcomb Signs COVID-19 Executive Orders

Today, Governor Eric J. Holcomb signed Executive Order 21-14 to extend the public health emergency. Continuation of the public health emergency allows certain individuals who otherwise would not be eligible to administer COVID-19 vaccinations and allows the state to continue to receive pandemic emergency funds for programs such as the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
