LANE CLOSURES – I-94 in Porter & La Porte Counties

*** UPDATE - Due to expected weather, this is pushed back one week and will begin on/after Sun, March 22. *** Overnight lane closures will occur during the hours of 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for one evening on or after Sunday, March 15 to set up a median work zone to the west of U.S. 421 for approximately three miles. The left shoulder and lane will then be closed in each direction through early April while a median crossover is constructed for future phases of construction in the area. Lake County Sheriff’s Police Officers Arrest 3 in Two Simultaneous Pursuits Just before 1 p.m. the Lake County Sheriff’s Highway Interdiction Unit was in pursuit of an SUV on The Indiana Toll Road for various traffic infractions.  The vehicle traveled west on I-90 eventually reaching the South Side of Chicago. At 63rd Place and South Lowe Avenue in Chicago, the suspect vehicle went into a dead end where police cornered the driver.  The suspect put his vehicle in reverse, slamming into a Lake County Police patrol SUV and trapping the officer inside. Two adults arrested while officers investigate a firearm complaint-the latest from the Michigan City Police Department  On March 6th at approximately 4:05 PM, the LaPorte County Regional Dispatch Center received a 911 call regarding two males who were pointing a firearm at another person in the 400 block of Ridgeland Avenue. Officers from Uniform Patrol Shift 2 responded to the area and located the two suspects at Walker Park. Both suspects fled from officers and were eventually apprehended in the 500 block of Springland Avenue. A loaded firearm with an extended magazine was located by a LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office

LCSO Jail Division Deputies Complete Certification

Last week, Jail Division Deputies Brandon Hillin, Cameron Chavez, and Andrew Gomez-Ramirez attended and successfully completed an Indiana Law Enforcement Academy certified Basic Jail Officer Course.The state mandated web-based course consisted of 40-hours of instruction, a final exam, and was hosted by the Indiana Sheriffs' Association.The course was taught by instructors from throughout the State of Indiana, including one instructor from the #LCSO.Over 150 students were enrolled in the course.Congratulations!

Maurice Ward Pleads Guilty to Failure to Register

On Feb 26, 2026, Judge Jaime Oss sentenced Maurice Ward to 3 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections for Failure to Register As a Sex or Violent Offender, a Level 5 Felony. Mr. Ward had a prior conviction in 2014 for the same offense. Mr. Ward entered into a plea agreement with the State of Indiana, agreeing to 2 years executed in prison. Michigan City Man Sentenced to 66 Months in Prison

On March 3, 2026, Dontia Grant, 29 years old, of Michigan City, Indiana, was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Cristal C. Brisco after pleading guilty to being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, announced United States Attorney Adam L. Mildred.   Grant was sentenced to 66 months in prison followed by 2 years of supervised release. According to documents in the case, Grant was pulled over in Michigan City for speeding.
