Michigan City Athletics has welcomed two new head coaches Tuesday evening. The MCAS Board of Trustees approved the appointment of Jocelyn Garner as the new head coach for MCHS volleyball. Ethan Warne was announced as the new head coach for boys soccer at MCHS.

Milwaukee man shoots at trooper during pursuit

LAKE COUNTY– A Milwaukee man is in custody after police say he shot at a state trooper during a pursuit Monday afternoon. On Monday at around 3:20 p.m., a trooper working on the Indiana Toll Road stopped to check on what he believed to be a disabled vehicle at the 3.8 mile-marker, which is near the Calumet Avenue exit ramp. As the trooper approached the vehicle, a teal Ford Escort, he observed that the vehicle did not have a license plate attached to the rear of the car. The driver saw the trooper and sped away. South Shore Line provides status update on new Miller Station building and East Parking Lot construction

The South Shore Line has given an update on parking at the new Miller Station Building and East Parking Lot. “Right now, important preparatory work is underway in the Miller Station area in Gary. NICTD is completing a large 54" sewer installation west of Lake Street. Next begins construction of the future Miller Station building. The new Miller Station building will abut the two platforms/tracks. Town of Porter Police Department reminding residents of fireworks ordinances

Town of Porter Police Chief Todd Allen wants to remind residents that the Town of Porter has ordinances that regulate when fireworks can be used and that they are used in a safe manner. Town Ordinance 26-121 states that fireworks can be discharged only during the following dates and times: ???? June 29th-July 3rd between 5:00 PM and 2 hours after sunset ???? Concrete restoration and bridge work continues on I-65

Additional road closures will be implemented in Lake County along the I-65 corridor between I-80/94 and U.S. 30 the week of July 5. 53rd Ave will be closed under I-65 on or after Tuesday, July 5. With the holiday weekend approaching, City of La Porte Fire Chief Andy Snyder is reminding residents to keep the city's fireworks ordinance in mind. There was an electricity in the air Saturday night at Notre Dame’s legendary football stadium, and it wasn’t the weather. Two Lowell troopers receive lifesaving awards

The Indiana State Police held an awards and recognition ceremony in Indianapolis Friday, where two Lowell troopers received lifesaving awards. From the Lowell Post, Trooper Jordin Bilthuis and Trooper Israel Rosillo were recognized for life-saving action they took in Lake County this past year. On September 11, 2021, just before midnight, Troopers Bilthuis and Rosillo responded to a dispatch of gunshot victims located in a vehicle, on I-80 westbound in Gary. Kayaks now available to rent at Stone Lake beach in La Porte

Kayaks are now available to rent at Stone Lake Beach in La Porte. The rental station is located across from the accessible kayak launch. Local Trooper named 2021 Indiana State Police Trooper of the Year

Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas G. Carter announced on Friday that the recipient of the 2021 Indiana State Police Trooper of the Year is Trooper Andrew D. The Portage Police announced that the southbound lane of Willowdale Road will be closed intermittently between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. from Monday, June 27 through Friday, July 1, weather permitting. La Porte Police Department reminding public of fireworks ordinance

The La Porte Police Department is reminding the public of the city’s fireworks ordinance. Police said, “A friendly reminder to all that the following dates and times residents are allowed to fire fireworks is June 28th through July 9th from 5pm until 11pm. Horizon Bank awards $15,000 grant to Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana

Horizon bank announced a recent grant award to The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Northwest Indiana. The Boys and Girls Club is a safe place for children and teens to spend their time after school and during the summer. In a typical year, they serve over 900 members. Police seeking public’s help identifying who ripped off Pride flag in Town of Porter

The Town of Porter Police Department is seeking the public’s help in identifying someone who ripped off a Pride flag from a residence. A resident in the 200 Block of Beam Street recently reported to the department that someone had ripped their Pride flag off of their residence. The act was caught on video. South Shore Line providing extras to Pride Parade, adds 18th street stop for concert

In an effort to accommodate an expected increase in ridership for the Chicago Pride Parade, the South Shore Line will offer additional capacity and extra passenger trains on Sunday, June 26. Alcohol is prohibited on all trains on June 26. Glass bottles are prohibited at all times. Michigan City man arrested for possession of child pornography

A Michigan City man was arrested Wednesday for possession of child pornography, according to the Indiana State Police. Members of the Indiana State Police Cyber Crimes Unit served a search warrant in the 2700 block of Wozniak Rd. Police say the warrant service was the result of an extensive investigation conducted by detectives from the Indiana State Police Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. Man faces charges for injuring police after found in motel with juveniles

A Schererville man is facing multiple charges after police found him in a Portage motel with juveniles and then injured police while resisting arrest. On Tuesday at around 2:11 a.m. an officer with the Portage Police Department observed two juvenile females stumbling barefoot along U.S. Highway 20 near Willowcreek Road.
