Northwest Indiana builders perform better in construction safety and project excellence than the rest of the nation. At the recent Construction Awards Banquet, that notion was on full display as many of the region’s top builders earned recognition for their outstanding performances across many incredible projects. We would like to congratulate Officer Daniel Revoir, who was recently recognized during a ceremony at Victory Field in Indianapolis for his efforts of removing impaired drivers from the streets of Michigan City. The event was hosted by officials from the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute, and Officer Revoir received an “All-Star” award for his contributions of increasing traffic safety. Thank you Officer Revoir for making our community a safer place!!!

The weight and the burden of responsibility for being named the Chief of Operations for the Michigan City Police Department was recently conferred upon Marty Corley. The oath of office was a very sobering and honorable moment as fellow officers along with friends and family supported the occasion with words of affirmation and encouragement for what lies ahead. Nursing student Annie Spangler dreams of being a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) and working in the operating room when she graduates from Indiana Wesleyan University next spring. The Chesterton woman said receiving this year’s Maria Petti Memorial Scholarship will help her toward that goal, helping with the costs of her final year of nursing school. “This scholarship was a big blessing,” she said.The scholarship, available to Porter and LaPorte County students seeking a career in the surgical field, provides awards of up to $5,000. Clarence L. Hulse is honored to be recognized by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC), the largest association for professional economic developers in the world! He has been recognized by his peers as a Fellow Member, which is bestowed upon those who have made significant contributions to the economic development arena. Fellow Members are often seen as the Deans of the Economic Development profession. He will join other honorees at the International Economic Development Council Annual Meeting and Conference in Nashville later this fall. La Porte County Sheriff John T. Boyd officially announced the retirement of Deputy Gary Biggs and the division transfer of Deputy Jacob Pisowicz. Deputy Biggs was hired by the La Porte County Sheriff's Office as a Merit Deputy in February of 1999.  During his two-plus decades of service, he held a variety of positions in various divisions throughout the agency – patrol deputy, drug task force detective, Emergency Response Team member, K-9 handler, warrants deputy and most recently, school resource officer (SRO). A shots fired incident that had occurred on Aug. 11 in Michigan City led to an arrest on Tuesday. The LaPorte County Drug Task Force, the Fugitive Apprehension Street Team (FAST), Michigan City SWAT, and the Michigan City Police Department’s Investigative Division executed a search warrant and arrest warrant at the 200 block of Willard Avenue in Michigan City. On Aug. 11, the Michigan City Police Department’s Patrol Division responded to the 100 block of Merrihill Drive in the Lakeland Estates apartment complex regarding numerous reports of gunshots being fired. With one week until classes begin and move-in underway, the Protect Purdue Health Monitoring and Surveillance Team released updated data Tuesday (Aug. 17), showing that 40,496, or 75%, of all West Lafayette students, faculty and staff have submitted proof and been verified as fully vaccinated, with some areas showing significantly higher percentages. Of students living in University Residences this fall, 84% have submitted valid proof of full vaccination to date, as have 86% of faculty. Fully vaccinated individuals who have not yet submitted their documentation, as well as partially vaccinated individuals in process, are not included in the campus vaccination

The LaPorte County Drug Task Force, The Fugitive Apprehension Street Team (FAST), and Michigan City SWAT effected two arrests as the result of a search warrant that was executed at the 500 block of Walton Avenue in Michigan City. Taken into custody was Shawanda Archambeault, who had outstanding felony warrants, along with Michigan City Resident, Glen-Ian Howe. Following an investigation, a search warrant was obtained for the home of Glen-Ian Howe. As a result of this search, a substantial amount of suspected methamphetamine and heroin were recovered. Additionally, various other suspected illegal drugs were seized, along with numerous illegal firearms,

La Porte County Public Library, in partnership with LaPorte County Soil and Water Conservation District, cut the ribbon on a traveling Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service this past weekend. The Exhibit entitled, Water/Ways, is a salute to the role water plays in our lives and will be on display inside the Rolling Prairie library location between August 14, 2021 and September 26, 2021. A companion exhibit celebrating local water stories is also available in the Rolling Prairie Library location. Additional water-themed programming and events are planned to celebrate the exhibit. On Friday, the Michigan City Police Department family congratulated Lieutenant Tim Richardson on his retirement from the Michigan City Police Department. Lt. Richardson was hired on August 15th, 1994 and served the citizens of Michigan City for 27 years. He started off as a Patrolman and worked his way up through the ranks to Corporal, Sergeant and Lieutenant. The Michigan City Police Department was also honored to have Lt. Richardson serve as Assistant Chief (Chief of Operations) during his career.
