CLICK IT OR TICKET CAMPAIGN REMINDS MOTORISTS TO BUCKLE UP

On any given day, more than 90 percent of motorists can be found wearing their seat belts. Unfortunately, the small percentage of people who choose not to buckle up make up a disproportionate amount of the fatalities that occur every year on Indiana roads. It is a concern that the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office is working to address this spring by participating in the national Click It or Ticket enforcement campaign. 3 Road Closures in Porter County starting June 1st.

State Road 2 to be closed at Heavilin Rd PORTER COUNTY, Ind. - The Indiana Department of Transportation announces a road closure for State Road 2 between Danvers Pkwy and the bridge over Salt Creek beginning Tuesday, June 1. The road will be closed to construct a roundabout at State Road 2 and Heavilin Rd/C.R. N 50 W and to complete a bridge deck overlay project on the bridge over Salt Creek. Work will be ongoing through late September, 2021. Motorists should seek an alternate route. The official detour will follow State Road 8, State Road 49 and U.S. 30.

A. K. Smith Welder Jessica Wilhelm Earns State’s Top Honor in Career and Technical Education

Jessica Wilhelm, a senior at Michigan City High School and Welding Technology student at the A.K. Purdue University Global commencement recognizes a record 1,800-plusgraduates

A record of more than 1,800 Purdue University Global graduates worldwide took part in virtual commencement ceremonies on Saturday (May 22). Kiwanis Announces Parade Scholarships

The Kiwanis Club of LaPorte proudly announces the creation of a new scholarship in conjunction with its sponsorship of the LaPorte 4th of July Parade. The March Toward Success scholarship will award two $750 individual scholarships to high school marching band seniors, participating in the 2021 LaPorte 4th of July Parade. A ceremony was held today to remember fallen Indiana Conservation Officers and recognize current officers for their excellence while serving the state of Indiana and its citizens. Prayer shawl donation helps those in crisis at Franciscan Health Michigan City Center of Hope

When members of the Prayer Shawl Ministry of LaPorte Catholic Church learned about Franciscan Health Michigan City’s Center of Hope, they found the perfect beneficiary for the work of their knitting needles. Franciscan Health’s Centers of Hope are designated spaces where victims are given one-on-one trauma care by SANE (sexual assault nurse examiner) nurses trained to handle sexual assault cases. In many cases, clothes and undergarments must be taken for the forensic kit from patients who are coping with a traumatic attack. The center’s emergency clothing closet provides replacement clothing, undergarments and even blankets, toiletries and snacks for these patients.

I-94 westbound to have overnight lane closures

The Indiana Department of Transportation announces overnight lane closures on I-94 westbound between mile marker 7 and 3 from approximately 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 25 to 5 a.m. Wednesday, May 26. These lane closures will be in place to change the current work zone lane configuration on westbound I-94. Hoosier voters to receive postcard with election information in the mail
