Governor Announces Next Stage to Safely Reopen Indiana

Franciscan Health Foundation awarded $929K from FCC COVID-19 Telehealth Program to boost virtual care push

During the COVID-19 pandemic, telehealth services have provided a vital connection between healthcare providers and patients, allowing them to receive care in the safety of their homes. Throughout the crisis, Franciscan Health hospitals and Franciscan Physician Network have aimed to meet the needs of patients virtually, avoiding offices and waiting rooms. Our response to COVID-19 has included over 100,000 telemedicine visits, especially important for the most compromised patients, according to Craig Miller, Franciscan’s Administrative Director of Ambulatory Services. Dermody: City to end its Transit Triangle contract

The City of La Porte will not be extending its contract with the Transit Triangle commuter service, according to Mayor Tom Dermody. “Despite its affordability, ridership has remained fairly stagnant over the last several years,” Dermody said. “Our residents expect us to be responsible with their tax dollars and unfortunately, numbers that low simply do not justify the cost. Purdue University Northwest’s (PNW) Office of Concurrent Enrollment awarded scholarships to area high school students who participated in the concurrent enrollment program.  The scholarship recognizes five highly motivated and engaged students wishing to attend Purdue Northwest. Among the recipients are Samantha Frederick, Lake Central High School; Romulo Gutierrez, Hammond Academy of Science and Technology; Benjamin Hand, Munster High School; Conner Olah, Highland High School; and Audry Wright, Kankakee Valley High School. Indiana Department of Insurance Commissioner Approves Anthem Financial Relief Program to Help Hoosier Employers Due to COVID-19 Pandemic

Indianapolis – Indiana Department of Insurance Commissioner Stephen W. Robertson recently approved a request from Anthem to provide financial relief to individual plans and fully-insured employer groups in the form of premium credits. The premium credits program ranges from 10% to 15% for Anthem medical plans and 50% for dental, which include individual grandfathered plans, small group plans, large group plans, and national accounts with Anthem medical and/or dental plans. Anthem is providing $14.4 million of financial assistance to Hoosiers to ease the burden COVID-19 is placing on affiliated health plans’ consumers and employer customers, care providers and nonprofit partners

Washington Park Zoo Reopens June 15th

The Washington Park Zoo will reopen to the public on June 15th. In conjunction with state and local officials, the Washington Park Zoo will enter Phase I of their reopening plan. This process follows the advice and recommendations of health officials, numerous zoo facilities, and small businesses within the community. Residential Fire; No Injuries Jackson Township

Liberty, Washington, and Westville Firefighters responded to a working residential fire in the North 600 block of Old Suman Road in Jackson Township on Sunday at around 4:30 PM CST. Fire Chief Brian Duncan arrived on scene and requested a Tanker Plan 1for a working fire from the garage that was spreading into the residence. 911 Callers Report Erratic Driver Before Crash on I-65

On Sunday afternoon at 12:20 p.m., the Lowell Regional Dispatch Center began to receive 911 calls of an erratic driver southbound on I-65 from U.S. 30. Preliminary investigation by Master Trooper Dwayne Haliburton and Trooper John Landowski show that the vehicle, a white 2005 Ford van, struck a median wall at an unknown mile-marker while callers were reporting the van’s dangerous lane movements. Two ramps to NB I-65 to be closed in Lake County

The Indiana Department of Transportation announces two ramp closures to northbound I-65 near Crown Point and Merrillville. The ramp from 109th Ave northbound I-65 will be closed beginning Tuesday, June 9 for concrete patching. The ramp will reopen by the end of June, 2020. The ramp from eastbound U.S. 30 to northbound I-65 is also currently closed. This ramp is expected to reopen in the beginning of July, 2020. Drivers should seek an alternate route. The westbound U.S. 30 ramp to northbound I-65 remains open, as well as the ramps from U.S. 231 to I-65.

UPDATE: Early Morning Crash Closes I-94 for Hours, One Airlifted

Thursday morning troopers responded to a personal injury crash on I-94 east near mile-marker 26th. Investigation by Senior Trooper Jerry George indicates that a Freightliner pulling an enclosed box trailer was partially in the far right lane and partially on the right shoulder.  The truck was driven by a 32 year old from Steger, IL.
