NIPSCO statement regarding BP Whiting event

The following is a statement for Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) regarding the BP Whiting refinery experiencing an operational issue on Thursday: "NIPSCO’s electric system is not associated with today’s event at the BP facility in Whiting, Ind. BP maintains its own infrastructure to support the electric needs of its facilities. NIPSCO’s electric system was not interrupted during this event and is continuing to perform normally."

Indiana State Police investigating fatal crash involving LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office vehicle

Thursday morning, the Indiana State Police Lowell Post was contacted by LaPorte County Sheriff Ron Heeg to assist in investigating a crash that resulted in a fatality. The Indiana State Police Police say the investigation involved a LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office vehicle. The identity of the deceased will be released Friday (Feb. 2). INverse Poetry Archive now accepting entries

The Indiana Arts Commission (IAC), in partnership with the Indiana State Library, announced today that INverse, the state poetry archive, is accepting entries. INverse, an initiative of former Indiana Poet Laureate Adrian Matejka, celebrates and preserves the diverse range of Indiana poetry for future generations of Indiana writers and readers. Gov. Holcomb, FSSA announce an additional $6.9 million in grants to support child care

MCHS Senior Named Commended Student in National Merit Scholarship Program

Michigan City High School senior Jess Buetow has been named a Commended Student in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program. MCHS Principal Kyle Dean presented him with a Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation yesterday. CROWN POINT, Ind. – Franciscan Health Crown Point is celebrating the first and last babies born at its Family Birth Center following Sunday’s move to the new hospital. Chesterton roadwork: Alley closed between 11th and 12th streets after sinkhole discovered

The Town of Chesterton says the alley between 11th and 12th streets to the east and west, and between West Indiana Avenue and West Morgan Avenue to the north and south, has been closed to traffic, after a sanitary sewer sinkhole was discovered Monday. The Chesterton Utility’s Collection Crew was on site Monday with the Vactor truck to keep the sewer main pumped down. MCHS MCJROTC competes, supports community

The Michigan City High School (MCHS) Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (MCJROTC) competed in the Military Drill Sectional championship on January 27th at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis. “Despite the weather challenges that restricted our practice time, our cadets really gave it their best effort,” said Major Tom McGrath, the Senior Marine Instructor.
