Valparaiso Police Department, IN, K9 Camo will receive a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. K9 Camo’s vest will be embroidered with the sentiment “Gifted by Charley Coleman”. Delivery is expected within ten weeks. Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., established in 2009, is a 501(c)(3) charity whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. This potentially lifesaving body armor for four-legged K9 officers is U.S. made, custom fitted, and NIJ certified.

The Porter County Sheriff’s Office was host to Porter County Crisis Intervention Team training at the Sheriff’s Office last week. This is the first time the training has been offered in Porter County since 2009. A bicyclist died of injuries sustained when he was struck Monday morning by an SUV on East Porter Avenue, the Chesterton Police Department is reporting. The victim has been identified as 65-year-old Salvador Mujica, of Porter. Ogden Dunes has been awarded funding through the Community Crossings Matching Grant and will soon begin another road paving project in town. In preparation, two new dry wells have already been installed on the north side of Shore Drive at Diana Road to assist with storm water mitigation. Milling is scheduled to begin on Sept. 16 and should take approximately two days to complete. Once milling has been completed, paving will begin and should take approximately 5-7 days to complete. The LaPorte County E-911 Regional Dispatch Center received multiple 911 calls on August 29th at approximately 07:44 PM regarding a personal injury motor vehicle crash on West US Highway 12 at County Line Road that involved a sport utility vehicle and motorcycle. Multiple officers from Uniform Patrol Shift 2 quickly responded to the scene and noticed that both operators involved in the crash were suffering from personal injuries. Officers provided life saving measures to the motorcyclist and first aid to the driver of the sport utility vehicle.
