On Saturday June 29, 2024 at 5:18 PM, the Porter County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to the area of Smoke Rd and Division Rd for a SUV vs motorcycle crash. Two people were on the motorcycle at the time of the crash, one was pronounced deceased on scene and the other was transported to an area hospital and pronounced deceased, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Preliminary investigation / witness statements revealed that the SUV was traveling northbound while the motorcycle was traveling westbound. Witnesses reported a red Chevy SUV traveling westbound on S.R. 2 lost control as it approached the Bypass interchange, first driving into the grass median, then striking the concrete supporting wall under the bridge, and finally coming to a stop in the northwest cloverleaf of the interchange. The State of Indiana, represented by Deputy Prosecutor Michael Freddoso, presented evidence during a bench trial on May 29, 2024 before Magistrate Judge John Link of Superior Court No. 4 in Michigan City, with Judge Link issuing his ruling on June 20, 2024.
