Hess Irrigation to Gift Irrigation System to Local Senior


MICHIGAN CITY – Hess Irrigation is partnering with The Salvation Army of Michigan City to donate a residential irrigation system (valued at up to $3,000) to a La Porte County senior citizen who has faced hardship in recent years. The gift is part of a local initiative to support and uplift members of the community who may be in need. Nominations will be accepted throughout the month of September, and one recipient will be selected in October. Installation will be completed by the end of the year. “We believe in supporting the people who make this community what it is,”

The Porter County Sheriff's Office says they have been receiving reports that citizens have been getting telephone calls in which people were fraudulently claiming to be Law Enforcement Officials recently. Portage police seeking whereabouts of man who allegedly shot firearm after vehicle pursuit

The Portage Police Department is seeking the whereabouts of a man who allegedly shot a firearm after leading police on a vehicle pursuit early Wednesday. At about 1:31 a.m. officers were notified of a vehicle pursuit occurring in the city of Portage. Officers responded to the area and attempted to deploy stop-sticks but the pursuit ended near the intersection of Plaza Avenue and Plymouth Street just as Portage officers were arriving. An Elkhart, Indiana man was charged in Sunday's shooting that took place at a Michigan City gas station, police announced Tuesday. On Sunday just before 6:30 p.m. the LaPorte County E-911 Regional Dispatch Center received a 911 call regarding a person who was shot at BP gas station, located at 1302 East Michigan Boulevard. The victim was then transported to the Michigan City Police Department for medical treatment by a witness at the scene. Carlson Corners now closed around the clock in the Town of Porter

In the Town of Porter, Carlson Corners is now closed around the clock through approximately Oct. 3 for stormwater project, according to the Town of Chesterton Facebook page. After a on-site inspection Thursday, the contractor for a stormwater project on Carlson Corners has determined that the road will need to be closed to through-traffic 24/7, in order to stage materials adequately and shorten the project’s timeline. DNR: Lake and River Enhancement grants to benefit 18 lake and stream projects

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources announced that organizations in 12 Indiana counties will receive $1,324,000 in grants to fund 18 lake, river, and watershed land treatment projects through DNR’s Lake and River Enhancement (LARE) program. Funded projects are in LaGrange, Montgomery, Kosciusko, Owen, Marion, Elkhart, Starke, Dekalb, Randolph, Fountain, Jennings, and Gibson counties. The grants are funded through the LARE fee paid annually by boat owners when they register their craft with the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. This user-funded program benefits boaters all over the state.
