Director of Community Development and Planning Tom Casey announced his resignation today, according to La Porte Mayor Tom Dermody.   Casey, who was hired at the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, will end his time with the city on June 17.   "I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with the city, and I am thankful for the opportunity to have worked with Mayor Dermody and the rest of the leadership team," Casey said. Eastbound Train 203, departing Millennium Station at 6:10a and arriving at Gary Metro Center at 7:07a, is canceled through June 11. The cancellation is due to ongoing track construction that impacts track availability. Monday, June 14 service for Tr 203 will operate as regularly scheduled. Recommended alternative service during this period includes eastbound Train 205 or Train 207.

The Indiana Department of Labor’s new Youth Employment System, or YES, went live this morning, opening the door for Hoosier employers to begin using the system to comply with a new youth-employment law that goes into effect July 1. The new law requires Indiana employers who hire five or more minor employees (under age 18), per location, to list those employees in the new YES registry.
