MICHIGAN CITY, IN – Michigan City High School celebrated the accomplishments of the Class of 2026 during its 31st annual Commencement Ceremony on Sunday, June 7, in the Wolves Den Gymnasium. 340 MCHS graduates crossed the stage to receive their high school diplomas as family members, friends, faculty, and community members gathered to celebrate the milestone. The City of La Porte announced on their Facebook page that Colfax Avenue between 5th Street and State Road 2 will be closed starting Thursday, June 25, for water utility work necessary to complete the project at the National Guard Armory. An end date was not listed.

Police responded to a possible drowning on Monday. At approximately 5:38 pm, officers responded to Washington Park beach regarding a possible drowning. Bystanders observed a child wearing red shorts enter the water on the east side of the catwalk and just south of the lighthouse.
