Hobart Man Sentenced to 168 Months in Prison For Controlled Substance and Firearm Offenses  SOUTH BEND –Justin Ring, 37 years old, of Hobart, Indiana, was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Damon R. Leichty after pleading guilty to possessing with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine, a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of fentanyl, and a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of cocaine, and possessing a firearm as convicted felon, announced United States Attorney Adam L. The Indiana State Police gave the following update Tuesday night regarding the State Trooper being shot during a traffic stop: Third Update:  Following the incident, detectives continued to gather additional information and evidence related to the investigation. As a result of new information obtained, the female passenger was subsequently released from custody pending further investigation.  Again, this investigation remains active and ongoing. Additional details will be released in the upcoming days that will continue to answer many of the questions that have been asked and speculated by a few media outlets.

On July 1, the Duneland School Corporation will implement a Phone-Free Policy for students, per Indiana Public Law 107-2026: A student “bell-to-bell” cellphone and device ban in all public and charter schools, according to a Facebook post from the Town of Chesterton. State Trooper Shot During Traffic Stop on I-94; Suspect Deceased

The Latest from the Indiana State Police-Lowell Post FACEBOOK page Hammond, IN – Shortly after midnight, an Indiana State Trooper conducted a traffic stop on a gray Hyundai Elantra for a traffic violation. The location of the traffic stop was I-94 EB 2.4 mile-marker, which is at Indianapolis Blvd.  During the stop, the trooper requested immediate assistance after encountering two non-compliant occupants inside the vehicle. The trooper advised the dispatcher that he was holding the suspects at gunpoint while waiting for backup to arrive. Traffic configuration to change on I-94 eastbound between S.R. 49 and U.S. 421
