INDOT crews will be conducting paving operations resulting in a 1 day right lane closure on northbound State Road 49 at the interchange with I-94 in Porter County. Due to the location of paving, the ramp from eastbound I-94 to northbound State Road 49 will also close. This is scheduled for Mon, July 13.  

The City of Michigan City says their Planning Department is seeking public input on its Draft 2026 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Annual Action Plan. According to the City of Michigan City Facebook page, the plan outlines how federal funding is proposed to be invested in housing and community development projects throughout Michigan City. The Public Comment Period is now through August 10, 2026. Residents are encouraged to review the draft plan and share their feedback before the comment period closes. This week, representatives from Laporte County will transmit documents to the Indiana Supreme Court to begin the final steps necessary for a new Problem Solving Court. After much planning and deliberation, the Mental Health Court Team will deliver paperwork to the Indiana Supreme Court. Manhunt in LaPorte County Concludes with Suspect Deceased; Trooper Recovering After Shooting-The latest from the Indiana State Police-Lowell Post LaPorte County – At approximately 5:30 a.m. today, Indiana State Troopers responded to I‑94 to assist Berrien County, Michigan authorities in a stolen‑vehicle pursuit that had crossed into Indiana. During the pursuit, the suspect fired multiple rounds from a rifle and pointed the weapon at pursuing officers. The chase continued off I‑94 onto local roads, where the suspect temporarily eluded capture. Thursday the Indiana Broadband Office announced the results of the 17th round of the Indiana Connectivity Program, awarding $250,749 to expand broadband access across Indiana. A total of 63 addresses were awarded across 21 Indiana counties. Michigan City, IN – Several local organizations have announced a community-wide school supply drive, which runs through July 29. Supplies collected during the drive will be distributed to area students who are in need of materials to start the school year. Many area businesses have set up collection bins to accept donations from their employees and the general public. The La Porte County Health Department announced that free community CPR classes are available this July across La Porte County, hosted by the LaPorte City Fire Department and La Porte County Emergency Medical Service. “These classes are a great opportunity to learn or refresh lifesaving skills in a hands-on setting, the health department said on their Facebook page. “Take a look through the upcoming dates, times, and locations to find a session that works for you.” Registration details can be found on our Facebook events tab or at heartsafeLPC.com/events.  

The Michigan City High School (MCHS) Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (MCJROTC) did its part in contributing to the nation’s 250th celebration by providing the Color Guards for the Michigan City Patriotic Parade and the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Independence Day ceremony.
