MCHS Senior Named Commended Student in National Merit Scholarship Program

Michigan City High School senior Jess Buetow has been named a Commended Student in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program. MCHS Principal Kyle Dean presented him with a Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation yesterday. To accommodate passengers attending the Chicago Auto Show, the South Shore Line will be offering select weekday train stops at McCormick Place Station and Extra Saturday service, in addition to existing weekend service to McCormick Place. The Jasper County Board of Commissioners and the County Highway Department have enacted the frost law ordinance until further notice. The ordinance is used to minimize damage to county roadways. Franciscan Health Crown Point celebrates first, last babies

CROWN POINT, Ind. – Franciscan Health Crown Point is celebrating the first and last babies born at its Family Birth Center following Sunday’s move to the new hospital. Chesterton roadwork: Alley closed between 11th and 12th streets after sinkhole discovered

The Town of Chesterton says the alley between 11th and 12th streets to the east and west, and between West Indiana Avenue and West Morgan Avenue to the north and south, has been closed to traffic, after a sanitary sewer sinkhole was discovered Monday. The Chesterton Utility’s Collection Crew was on site Monday with the Vactor truck to keep the sewer main pumped down. MCHS MCJROTC competes, supports community

The Michigan City High School (MCHS) Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (MCJROTC) competed in the Military Drill Sectional championship on January 27th at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis. “Despite the weather challenges that restricted our practice time, our cadets really gave it their best effort,” said Major Tom McGrath, the Senior Marine Instructor. HTV IS REROUTED TO LCJ FROM CRASH SCENE

Last Friday (1/26) deputies were investigating a personal injury crash involving a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) and a box truck along US 20 near Oak Knoll Road.   At approximately 2:20 PM, eastbound US 20 vehicular traffic was closed for the recovery of the CM. Sergeant L. Scott Boswell parked his commission in the eastbound driving lane and a Kankakee Volunteer Fire Department apparatus was parked in the eastbound passing lane. The annual DNR Division of Historic Preservation & Archaeology photo contest has started. Open to photographers of any age and skill level, the contest has been held since 2005 to promote Indiana’s historic resources.
