On May 26 at 12:17 PM, deputies responded to a residence located in the 6900 north block of CR 525 West in reference to a burglary-in progress. Two subjects had been found on the property by the homeowner.   Deputies arrived and began to gather information from the victim. Shortly thereafter, the two subjects were taken into custody. They were identified as 39- year-old Keri L. KOHN of Michigan City and 37-year-old Gregory J. NOVAK of La Porte.   KOHN and NOVAK were transported to the La Porte County Jail (LCJ). Both were arrested for Burglary, Level 4 Felony. KOHN

Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division are investigating the circumstances of three adults found deceased inside a residence located in the 5600 west block of CR 250 North. Afternoon Shift Patrol Deputies responded to the residence on Sunday evening for a welfare check and made the discovery shortly after arriving. The early stages of the investigation have determined this was an isolated incident and there is / was no immediate public safety threat. This is an ongoing investigation, and no further information is available for release.

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- Two LaPorte County high school seniors with future healthcare career goals each recently received Franciscan Health Michigan City Medical Staff Memorial Scholarships to assist with their post-secondary educations. Tri-Township High School senior Caloe Peretti, 17, of Wanatah and Michigan City High School senior Naomi Williams, 18, of Michigan City were both selected by the Franciscan Health Michigan City Medical Staff Scholarship Committee as the 2025 scholarship recipients. In Pulaski County, a resurfacing project will begin on U.S. 421 between the two junctions of State Road 14 on or after Tuesday, May 27 through early August. During resurfacing activities, the road will be reduced to one lane with flaggers directing traffic in the area where work is occurring. As part of this project, U.S. 421 will fully close to traffic for approximately four days on or after Monday, June 9 for a culvert replacement. Motorists should seek alternate routes. The official detour will follow State Road 14, State Road 39 and State Road 16.

PORTER COUNTY, Ind. - Indiana Department of Transportation contractor Superior Construction will move to phase two of a bridge deck overlay project on State Road 49 between I-94 and U.S. 20 on or after Tuesday, May 27. State Road 49 will have alternating lane closures for work over the Amtrak railway just north of I-94 through mid-October. Phase two will have the right lane and shoulder closed in each direction through mid-July. During this phase, the ramp from westbound I-94 to northbound State Road 49 will also be closed. MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- Franciscan Health is hosting a free car seat safety event on Thursday, May 29. The event -- cohosted by the Trauma Services Department and the Prenatal Assistance Program -- is scheduled to take place from 3-6 p.m. at Franciscan Health Michigan City, 3500 Franciscan Way. A nationally certified child passenger safety technician will work with participants to teach them how to properly install a car seat. On Thursday INDOT  joined Hobart, Indiana - City Government for the ribbon cutting of their Colorado St railroad overpass project. INDOT-Northwest said that while this was a local project, it was funded through INDOT’s Local TRAX program. "We’re proud to have been a partner in bringing this safety improvement to Hobart!" News Release, Indiana Department of Natural Resources: Four Indiana Conservation Officer K-9 teams were recognized for completing the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Division of Law Enforcement’s nine-week K-9 Resource Protection Program during a graduation ceremony held today on the south lawn of the Indiana Statehouse. Indiana’s K-9 program started in 1997 with a pilot program of two teams. Because of its effectiveness, the program has grown to 10 K-9 teams throughout the state, one in each of the Indiana DNR Law Enforcement districts.
